Canon 518 - Cable release

Hello everyone - This is my first post on here !

I have just bought a lovely Canon 518 so I can add Super-8 to my video diaries

Any advice on Canon 518's gratefully received but my main question is I want to add a shutter release for when it's on a tripod - Will a shutter release from a SLR camera work in the same way or are they different ??
