Touch the sweet surrender


Here lies a man, buried within this grave.
Here exists a rotting corpse, he is the food for insects, and to the Earth below, he is it?s slave.
He meant nothing to anyone. He was just some poor slob off the street,
He caught on to the game just a little to late, he was embraced by the sleep.
I knew him, though not too well. Quiet at all times, lost in his own weird dreams,
He drank a bottle of whiskey a day, he chanted off sayings that no one understood.
But to those few of us who knew him, we knew that nothing was what it seemed.
However it no longer matters, he is gone from this cruel place,
His life was hard, his wife left him, his children ran away, the streets were all that was safe.
Men, Women, Children, they come and go. They are forgotten as time moves on,
This man, this poor soul of a man, he?ll be forgotten, it won?t take long.
I?ve seen it before, I?ll see it again. Some piece of shit trying to make himself a name,
He or she will come in here and shoot another of us, this man?s fate was the same.
No one cares about those of us who exist on the street day in and day out,
No one listens to us when we speak our minds, we are given no shoulders on which to pout.
But that?s life. At least it is for you who give not a glance, nor shed a tear.
For those of you that do, you easily drown your own sorrows in a mug of beer.
We?ll continue to live on, for as long as we can. Here, the street is our home.
Here we keep to ourselves, yet are still hurt, shot, beaten, cut to the bone.
But we?ll leave you be, for you?re not worthy of our kingdom.
Just remember when you look into a mirror, we could be you, and your life could be done.
We are seen as the poor souls who went on one too many drinking benders.
But I will tell you the truth, we are the ones who failed, and Touched the Sweet Surrender.
