Hello to all. I'm finally trying to catch up some rather than popping in for only five minutes or so.
Do you still have that snow, Ian? Would you like some of ours? While ours isn't deep, about the time we get it cleared off and have dry roads, it starts again.
This morning my daughter (who has been driving for a month and a half or so) had her first accident. There was some ice on the road and she slid into the ditch. Neither she nor her girlfriend were hurt, nor any property. My hubby will check the underneath of her car tomorrow, but it looks OK. (The towing company took it to his work.) Because no one was hurt and no other cars involved, the police came but did not cite her - lucky person!

Hiya Jandy!
Sorry to hear about your daughters accident.
My son is 15 1/2 now and has asked for his temps and I've refused. Recently there was 6 teenagers killed not far from us and it got me thinking a lot about my son being on the road, and in all honestly I don't feel he's mature enough to be behind the wheel yet!

Jandy, sorry to hear about your daughter, that must've been scary for her AND you.
Tan, I'm in agreement. I ride a motorcycle, and my 15 year-old son wants to too, badly. However, it's a discipline that requires absolute attention to what you're doing and is unforgiving of stupid mistakes, to say nothing of the general idiocy of drivers not seeing motorcyclists.
We've informed him that learning to ride or drive is a great priviledge, requireing a high level of maturity, shown by good grades, and if he's not able to demonstrate that baseline maturity, the bus will do just fine for getting around.

Glad to hear your daughter and her friend were uninjured, Jandy.
We held off letting our sons get licenses but finally gave in when they were able to pay a portion of their insurance.
Something else those of you in this position may want to consider is do you trust your child to drive as opposed to riding with one of his friends? We decided to let them have a learner's permit for a long time, and they drove everywhere with at least one of us in the car. When we were satisfied at the skill level they got a license. But no car until they could buy it themselves.
