LOL work is a good thing.
THe Metro works weird around here. There have been a series of problems that lead to slow downs pretty much every week now. It runs most of its trains during rush hour. After that, you can count on trains once every 20 minutes or so. Sundays are dreadful. If you go to the metro webpage you can enter you can get directions which include when then train leaves so you can decrease wait time on the platforms.
There is a Rembrandt exhibit it the National Gallery of Art that is suppose to be impressive. I am planning on checking it out this week.

Hey, I read this on another site, and thought a few of you, especially Crash, might find it humorous.
You Know You're From Washington DC When...
* You say you're from DC, but you actually live in VA or MD but are too tired to explain where.
* You know where the Pentagon really is but never bother to correct anyone about its location.
* There are at least fifteen ways to get everywhere and you know which way to go based on the weather, time of day, current political climate, terrorism road closures, and whether you are coming or going.
* "I got stuck behind a motorcade" is a common and real excuse for being late.
* When you say you're going to the mall and you don't mean shopping.
* You never refer to the 'Metro' as the 'subway'.
* You elbow tourists out of the way on the Metro escalators to "gently" emind them to WALK LEFT, STAND RIGHT.
* You don't bat an eye at 500 politicians and businessmen in suits running like their lives depended on it just to catch a Metro that will be followed by another in 90 seconds.
* You call it Targ?t, not Target, and are well aware that the one in Alexandria is just a "tad different".
* When Washington National Airport is and will always be "WASHINGTON NATIONAL", not "Reagan National".
* You meet someone else who says they're from the DC area and you realize they live two hours away from you.
* You realize that I-395 is Northern Virginia's version of NASCAR.
* You consider Northern VA to be in no way similar to southern VA
* You know which bridges to cross to get to Maryland or VA
* You have a few friends who don't know what you do... It's Top Secret government work.

My son was an intern in DC for a semester, and we stayed at his apartment within walking distance of the mall on weekends. It was a wonderful opportunity to visit all of the mall museums and art galleries.

Hey all! I'm still alive, though my little finger of my right hand is currently sueing my workplace after a window tried to chop it off. The window failed, just. Maybe ?3000 compensation according to the lawyers Feeling and ability to move it has gone
So, who can I visit over there!!!!!!!!
Been ages since I had a proper holiday.
Okay so it may take months, even a year to get the money, but I've missed so many of you since Boston that I've decided that if I get decent money then I'll use it for a holiday in the US.
I suggest you hide now!!!!
LOL!

Give me enough warning and I will meet you some place or you can come to DC. I have a feeling that getting people together will not be a problem.
Sorry to hear about your finger, hopefully it will get better over time.

Hi Ian! Sorry about the pinkie. Any hope of a return of function or feeling?
I'd say come to Ohio, but then I've always said Ohio's a great place to live, but you wouldn't want to visit here. Honestly, there's very little to do here. And after Boston, Ohio would really blow. Ask Crash, she did a year in purgatory here.
Keep us updated. DC would be a great place for you to visit, with all the museums and monuments. Then again, if you want to visit someplace really old in the States, consider St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest European settlement in the States. Or you could visit Williamsburg, Virginia, to see how the colonists lived prior to breaking off from Gr. Britain. Those are a couple places I'd really like to see.
And BTW, happy belated birthday, twin!

Ian, sorry bout the thumb. It would be way cool if you visit. If I can make it wearever I will.
*hugs*

ummmmm Avoid Ohio. Not much to do unless you like outdoor activities and rollar coasters. I could be off, I only lived there for a year.
Williamsburg is a ton of fun. Yorktown and Jamestown are in the same area. There is a camp ground that you can rent spots at for cheap lodging or hotels. It is about 2 1/2 hours from DC and 4 hours from Antitiem (sp) and Gettysburg. So you could hit Colonization, Revolutionary War, and Civil War all in one fell swoop.
New York is obvious. Hawaii is ideal. Expensive but totally worth it. San Fran gets you in driving distance of Napa Valley, Yosemite, and Lake Tahoe.
Just don't come in November, between a trip to Egypt and Thanksgiving, I have to work.

Merle - I should be seeing a hand surgeon (eep!) in about 12 weeks to see if they can fix my finger. Sounds like it'd mean cutting it open again though!
Not November huh PC? I guess it'll have to be two holidays then
as I was considering attending this:

I guess I can do two LOL.

LOL go for it. I won't be able to make it. I'll be in Egypt from 11/3 - 11/15 and then there is Thanksgiving at the end of the month. The Farscape convention looks like a ton of fun. If you are coming, I'll let Queen GOP know you are coming. She'll be back from Egypt then and might be able to meet up with you.
