I don't have anything new on the movie I'm afraid, but a while back I said that I thought young actress Ellen Page would be great as either Cherie or Joan. It was good to see her character Juno, in the movie 'Juno', list the Runaways as one of her favourite bands - along with Iggy and the Stooges and the Patti Smith Band. The movie soundtrack could have done with some Runaways music on it instead of that quirky, twee stuff that they used. Not my cup of tea, I'm afraid.

Good call Paul! She guest hosted SNL last night and before I even knew who she was, I was thinking
    she resembled Joan Jett!

I hope she'll be considered for the part!

Meanwhile, Jackie Fox was asked about a possible Runaways movie, during a recent MySpace Q & A.

Rock Zone - Has anyone approached the band about making a movie about The Runaways?

JF - My understanding is that The Linson Brothers have a script for a Runaways movie based on Cherie?s unpublished version of her book, but neither Lita nor I are involved.

I can't wait for this movie release!!! Mtv and Vh1 and FUSE BETTER promote and advertise this film! Is this movie about ALL FIVE girls?? or Cherie, Sandy and Joan?? This was a question on the Joan board that nobody got answered. Is Lita not involved b'cuz of ruining a Runaways reunion before Sandy's passing? And What about Jackie? This movie is gonna rock! People NEED to know what these girls went thru to open the doors for OTHER girl rockers for the next 3 decades!!! And how they showed up other guy bands! The band Rocked!

Speculating, on our part, is counter-productive, at best Derek, imo!
All we KNOW is that, at this point in time, according to Jackie, her and Lita are not involved with this film but the film is in the pre-production stage, so that fact should come as no surprise.

As I said, when the question came up on Joan's board, I am optimistic about this movie being something very special for The Runaways legacy and well worth the wait!

    More later,

This is an excerpt from telephone interviews with rock musician Joan Jett and her manager, Kenny Laguna, conducted a week before their 4 p.m. show Saturday at the Stockton Asparagus Festival.

    Q. (for Kenny) How's the new Runaways movie going?

    A. I'm really excited about this movie. Rock and roll movies are never successful in general. There hasn't been a winner in a long time. It's going forward. It's quite a process. We're gonna see if we can keep making history.

The entire interview is posted on Joan Jett's message board!

Joan Jett mellows but music still has the edge
From teen band icon to legend, longtime road warrior rocks on

Q: I know there's been talk of a film project focusing on the Runaways -- what's going on with that now?

A: There's a movie being written now about the Runaways, a feature film, based on our lives. They're talking to some of the girls, Cherie Currie, using things from her book, and they'd talked to Sandy West, the drummer, before she passed away. So we're working on this movie, but it's being done by major people, like John Linson ("Lords of Dogtown"). The script is being written now. In fact, I met with a screenwriter last night to talk to him about it.

Q: Do you have a specific goal in mind with the film?

A: I'm very proud of the Runaways and would like people to know more about them.

I want to talk about the great things the Runaways did to inspire people. And also show how different the music scene was in the '70s. I mean, can you imagine 16-year-old girls running around playing in a rock-and-roll band -- we made what goes on with Lindsay Lohan look like nothing. Thank God that all the paparazzi stuff didn't exist, 'cause ... they would've had plenty of material. (laughs)

Q: Are there any concerns about making sure the story is told accurately?

A: Sure, getting the memories right and the language right, how everybody talked, the relationships between the girls. Really, I would like real teenagers to play it. I'd like it to be true. I don't want 20-year-olds playing 16. I'd like to get it right 'cause we probably have this one shot and that's it.

This is just a segment. Here is a link to the entire interview:

Cherie mentioned to me a couple days ago that they had called in a new screenwriter. Must be the guy Joan mentions meeting with!
I'm not sure if he is going to be helping or replacing Floria Sigismondi, as writer, but I assume she is still directing the film!
Hopefully things will move ahead at a quicker pace now, anyway!
