I just heard about the tragedy in Ohio that took the life of former Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott. This senseless act left a total of five dead during a concert by Damageplan, including the gunman.
I am a fan of Pantera and have seen them live several times. I met Dimebag briefly in the early 90's at a KROQ met & Greet in L.A.

This situation has me really bummed, Its one thing when a performer dies a natural death, but to be taken out in this manner is devastating. I understand now that the killer's insane reason, was because Dimebag & his brother left Pantera and caused them to break up.
My prayers and tears go out to Darrell's family in this crazy time as well as the others who lost thier life in this senseless tragedy <marquee> </marquee>

I'm not to familiar with Pantera although I liked what I have heard.
What total insanity! Reminds me of John Lennon's killer in a way!
Chapman had copycats...lets hope this nut won't!

Rog this is sensless I have heard some Pantera
this guy was a legend. Heres an article from
the Winnipeg Free Press this writer Rob
Williams is very good.
Winnipeg has a few famous musicians itself
Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman from the
Guess Who also BTO and Neil Young call
Winnipeg home any way Rog heres the article.
Damageplan guitarist Dimebag Darrel Abbott
formerly of Pantera was shot to death
Wednesday while playing a show in Columbus,
Ohio, when a gunman climbed the stage and
shot him six times.
The murder occured 24 years to the day after
John Lennon was gunned down.
The gunmen killed three other people in the
club before being gunned down himself by
police.
The bizarre slaying sent shock waves through
worldwide music community including Winnipeg
where Pantera last played at the arena in
2001.
"He's been my idol since I started listening
to Pantera in 1990. He's one of the artists
who inspired me playing guitar"said Rob Styck
guitarist for Winnipegs own Godsize a Pantera
tribute band.
"He's from Texas, he was big into Hank
Williams and Country. A lot of his solos are
blues orientated. Its a different style
but it has an edgy metal thing".
Godsizes next show is Jan 29/04 at the Zoo
in Winnipeg and will be held in honour of
Abbott, Styck said.
Anyway Rog there is a big following up here
and from the reports on Godsize they are a
great band.
Tickets to Winnipeg any one
What a stupid act of idiocy.
Thats not the entire article but you get the
jist of it.
Peace Out C.W.

Thanks CW. I hadn't put 2 and 2 together when I posted yesterday!
It doesn't seem likely that the date hadn't been a factor in the gunman's mind!
//oo\\
What a mess this world is in!!!

I saw Darrel a few times with Pantera back in the ol' days!!! He was truly a great guitarplayer and I think EVERYBODY in the music world will miss him!!!
What right does someone have to take Darrel's life?!! Only sick people with a sick mind can commit such crime!!!!
R.I.P. dear Darrel!!!!!!
Rita.
