East Coast hard rockers FRANKENSTEIN 3000 are getting a little help from their friends on a covers CD to be released this summer on Main Man Records. Inspired by their recent collaboration with NEW YORK DOLLS frontman David Johansen on the DOLLS classic "Babylon", FRANKENSTEIN 3000 decided to record a CD of some of their favorite classic punk/'70s tunes and invite some of their heroes to contribute.

In addition to the NEW YORK DOLLS frontman, the as-yet-untitled disc will include guest apperances by RUNAWAYS singer Cherie Currie, DEAD BOYS guitarist Cheetah Chrome, GENERATION X guitarist "Derwood" Andrews, DICTATORS vocalist "Handsome" Dick Manitoba, former teen heartthrob/F8 leader Leif Garrett and current NEW YORK DOLLS guitarist Steve Conti.

The FRANKENSTEIN 3000 covers CD will feature tracks that were only previously available on tribute compilations (some released exclusively in Japan) plus a number of brand new recordings, including songs originally performed by the RAMONES, VELVET UNDERGROUND, THE RUNAWAYS, CHEAP TRICK, THE NEW YORK DOLLS, T-REX, THE PRETENDERS, QUEEN, THE WILDHEARTS, REDD KROSS, THE BEATLES, SWEET, THE DICTATORS and JOE JACKSON.

FRANKENSTEIN 3000 is: Keith Roth (vocals, guitar), Clint Gascoyne (drums, vocals), Dave Lister (guitar, vocals) and Eric Hoagland (bass, vocals).

There's a blurb in Rolling Stone:

(all the way at the bottom)

If I remember correctly, they recorded a cover of American Nights. I look forward to hearing it, F3K was the band that backed Sandy and Cherie at the Stone Pony a few years back and I heard they were phenominal. I love their CDs anyway. In an earlier incarnation called Bad Biscut they once opened for Joan Jett, and Bon Jovi too.
