As you can probably imagine, there's a fair bit of Celtic music played out my way. I could go on at length, but for the moment I'm just going to mention one artist, that being Martyn Bennett. He became well known for playing high tempo Celtic music, leaping about the stage in his kilt and dreadlocks. While still in his twenties he developed cancer, but rather than give up he burned all his old instruments and then produced the most original, and utterly brilliant take on Celtic music, an album called 'Grit'. Sadly, he died shortly after finishing it. It you get a chance, try and give 'Grit' a listen. You won't be disappointed.
I'm glad to see that there's a Celtic music scene over there on your side of the pond. It might not be what we normally consider rock but, as I'm sure anyone who's seen a Celtic band play live knows, it rocks!! Especially with a couple of pints of Guiness to oil those joints.

When you say Celtic music, the first two bands that pop into my brain is the Chieftians and Leahy, because I have some of their Cd's, along with some Dropkick Murphys. I also like Flogging Molly, Avalon Rising and Richard Thompson

Of course I had to jump on this subject! Celtic music being my second favorite genre, and Guinness, my favorite beer.
I LOVE Celtic Woman, have all of their cd's, as well as the solo releasings from Lisa Kelly, M?ir?ad Nesbitt, and Chloe Agnew. Anytime I'm feeling sad, their music definately lifts my spirits. Lisa is my favorite, without a doubt, especially when she sings "I Am The Voice".
Another artist I love is Helen O'Hara, a not very well known fiddle player. Both her albums are instrumental, and beautiful. She played the fiddle on "Come On Eileen" by Dexy and the Midnight Runner's back in the 80's.
More faves: The Chieftans, Clannad and Lisa Lynne.
