Those who know me know that I have a tendency to take my time to get around to things, though I usually get there in the end. Well, I'm pleased - nay, delighted - to announce (at the grand old age of 47) that I'm going to be a dad. Not only that, but my long-term partener, Kat, and I have decided to make it a special holiday season and are getting married on the 28th of this month.

Let me be the first to congratulate you on both special occassions. Just remember that a marriage shouldn't change anything between you (you'd be surprised how many people forget that). And experiencing fatherhood for the first time will be a treat you wouldn't believe. I know thats the way its been for me. Hope you all have many many happy years together!

Hey Raintown, enjoy every minute. I did not have my first until I was 43 and just had my second last year. Just rest man once they go mobile you will be hopping!

Congrats to ya bud being a parent is the best job ever.
Thanks very much everyone. I should add that when I was writing my original post I was cut short by a visitor arriving so I didn't get to add that Kat is expecting twins. We were in shock when we found out, but the best sort of shock. It's also been great telling this news to my mum and dad who are 73 and 75 years old respectively - I think they'd given up hope for me. It's funny, when I was younger I didn't think I'd ever want kids, but now that there are two of them on the way I can't wait to be a dad. I am going to relish every single moment. And I've got the kilt ordered for the wedding.
