Neon Angel
A Memoir of The Runaways
Cherie Currie
with Tony O'Neill
Cherie Currie, the original lead singer of '70s teenage all-girl rock band The Runaways, powerfully recounts her years in the band, her friendship with legendary guitarist Joan Jett, and her struggle with drugs in this candid autobiography-the inspiration for the forthcoming film The Runaways starring Dakota Fanning as Currie and Kristen Stewart as Jett.
>In 2010, the story of The Runaways will be made into a feature film starring Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie. Neon Angel is serving as the basis for the film, and as a result Cherie Currie and Joan Jett will be in the media promoting the film and the book. We are publishing to coincide with the film's release.
>On-set photos of Stewart and Fanning have been covered in every major magazine and celebrity blog and all Twilight fans are eagerly anticipating seeing this movie, opening The Runaways to a new generation.
>The spectacular package will feature a printed case with photo of Cherie Currie that will appeal to all fans of The Runaways and hard-hitting music memoirs and will include a wrap-around bellyband with movie art that will bring in younger fans of Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning.
>Tony O'Neill (Down and Out in Murder Mile) is an experienced music journalist and co-author with an expertise in the punk / rock genre, making him the perfect collaborator for this book.
At the tender age of 15, Cherie Currie became the lead singer for The Runaways, an all-girl punk rock group formed in 1975. Cherie and her bandmates?Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Jackie Fox, and Sandy West?were quickly catapulted from playing small LA clubs to selling out major stadiums during an amazing time in punk rock. With her signature Bowie-hair cut and fishnet stockings, Cherie lit up the stage, singing hits such as ?Cherry Bomb,? ?Queens of Noise,? and ?Born to Be Bad.? She toured with bands such as the Ramones, Van Halen, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Cheap Trick, and Blondie, and hung out with the Sex Pistols.
The Runaways were the first all-girl rock band to have hit songs, record platinum albums, and tour internationally. But behind the scenes they were still five teen runaways, thrown into a decadent, high-pressure world. Neon Angel is a no-holds-barred look at their fascinating rise, filled with stories of sex, drugs, violence, exploitation, and rock ?n roll.
