Here's a rarely seen flick from the 1970's that was recently restored....

    WATTSTAX

    wattstax

This is a documentary about the 1972 Watts Summer Festival, which culminated in a day long concert at a sold out Los Angeles Coliseum.

The concert was headlined by Issac Hayes and the support acts included Rufus Thomas and his daughter Carla, the Bar Kays and the Staple Singers.

The film also features commentary by many African Americans who comment on how things were in Watts since the riots that tore the city apart seven years earlier.

Also featured comic interludes with the Late Richard Pryor and Ted Lange (Issac from THE LOVE BOAT)

Not a rock'n'roll film as such, but 'Diary of a Mad Housewife' from 1970 has a bizarre scene in which the Alice Cooper band are playing at a posh party and go nuts and smash their instruments. I remember sitting with my jaw in my lap the first time I saw this movie.

Again, not strickly a rock'n'roll movie, but 'American Graffiti' has a great soundtrack.

Sir Guy Grand adopts homeless bum Youngman to be heir to his obscene wealth, and immediately begins bringing him into the intricacies of the family business, which is to prey upon people's greed by use of the vast holdings of the Grand empire.

They leave no stone unturned as sporting events, restaurants, art galleries, and traditional pheasant hunts turn into lurid displays of bad manners and profiteering.

Things climax at the social event of the season, the inaugural voyage of the new pleasure cruiser The Magic Christian.

And a kick butt soundtrack featuring Badfingers COME AND GET IT
