I always had strong feelings about the Jason films- I thought they were an exploitative form of violent pornography. There was no attempt to develop character or plotline; just put this big lug in a mask on the screen and have him kill off horny teenagers in a variety of improbable and disgusting ways. Each subsequent film in the series was the same dreary business, over and over again ad nauseam. And these films made a fortune, which says more about the tastes of the movie-going public than I really want to know. There was no attempt to explain motive, no point to be made, nothing really very interesting going on. The Elm Street films, on the other hand, were imaginative and brought to the audience a nightmarish (literally) and well-delineated character in Freddy Krueger, albeit a distasteful one, thanks in part to the talent of Wes Craven and Robert Englund. In time, they became repetitious, and boring, but the first few films in the series were among the best horror films of the 80's. So, in purely cinematic terms, Freddy KO's Jason every time.

Maybe, I bet they both kill each other off. I didn't know this movie was coming out this summer already. Even if you aren't a big Friday or Nightmare fan, you just gotta go and see Jason and Freddy duke it out.
