hi laura - well, i haven't seen miss saigon in many years, but when i saw it on broadway, the engineer was the only cast member besides lea salonga, who played the lead & was the original miss saigon, to get a standing ovation....

as for the engineer, he has a pretty large part, but first off, he needs to be played by someone who is Asian - if i remember right he was in charge of the brothel. Here's a good description of hte character I read somewhere: "The Engineer is an emblematic character: a pimp, a hustler, a manipulator and an idolater of America as the paragon of greed, wealth and display. As the Engineer, Raul Aranas is explosively sleazy" - whoever this Raul is - he did a good job of playing the character sleazy...

But yeah...John needs to play the part of Chris

yeah, i'd definitely go see him in Evita if that was a possibility & maybe miss saigon...but who knows what he's going to do. i've never been able to figure him out - very hard to predict. even if he says one thing - he ends up doing another. i'd like to see him perform again - it's been abt 3 1/2 years now since i've seen him - abt 4 years since i've really spoken to him. i've just been waaaay too busy with my kids to travel now that they are getting older & involved in so many activities(except for when we do family holidays)!!

it's good to hear that he's moving on to other shows, though. i've never been too crazy abt his whole band thing - i think he's perfect as a musical theatre actor & possibly films - even though he hates the hours.

If anyone finds anyting out for sure...and finds out all the whens and wheres or a definate place to find all that out, maybe I can find a way to go to one of the shows...*sighs* that would be great...and w/ enough notice I might actually be able to go! according to whatsonstage.com, evita is beginning casting this month to open in june 2006 - wonder if john could go for the leading male role in that show....
