    The Marcus Vick situation

since it's been made public (obviously)...i'll share the entire story which i messaged to a few others on this board before this thing blew up

Marcus was pulled over for driving with a suspended license...he did not know about it and thought he had done everything to complete what he had to do to get his license back...he had actually, Richmond has a law that makes everyone who has had their license suspended pay $60 at the END of all the paperwork to have their license reinstated, obviously Marcus isn't from Richmond and this isn't very well explained in Richmond to all motorists so they wind up with a lot of extra tickets (lawyer in richmond area said it is pretty common to not know about the fee) so after being stopped (NOT ARRESTED) he drove to Richmond and paid the 60 bucks...he told the coaching staff before anyone else did...so unlike basically anything else he's done he handled this one the right way

this happened on dec 17...but it just came out today b/c he appeared in court for the ticket...the ticket was dropped

    now....Part 2

coach beamer had a function in Hampton Roads with all the state college coaches, so they set this date aside as the day Beamer would meet with Marcus's family (Chris Ellis too but that's another story) he told Marcus and fam about the decision, which is a one game suspension...he also needed to have a 2.5 GPA before spring practice began or he would not be practicing with the team in the springtime and would fall to #4 on the depth chart and wouldnt come back up at all until he proved he could handle the off the field issues...once he explained his punishment he gave him 3 options

    1) transfer to a D-1AA school and play out his senior year

    2) go pro

    3) accept the punishment and abide by what was set forth for him without any media contact in the coming season

this was agreed upon by Weaver, Steger, and all the coaching staff...apparently Steger just turned his back on his own decision

Marcus HAS NOT decided to go pro, but unfortunately it may be his only choice now...he has done some terrible things, but he really isnt a bad guy...just very immature

    Good post gc.
Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness, disregard of all rules and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence. In other words, it is war minus the shooting.

how much can you mature though when your big bro has handed you everything since you were 17 yrs old...drivin an escalade everywhere never having to worry about money...just how much can you mature with all of that handed to you...not to mention those who thought the world of him coming out of high school

it'd be hard not to fail in that situation...feel sorry for the guy really

how many opportunities can one person get though?

Willie Williams is on the same short leash and has made the best of things for 2 years so far.

Some people learn from their mistakes, some dont, but I just cant feel sorry for him. Besides, he is still going to get a nice signing bonus and should he stay in the nfl for something like 40 games, he gets an nfl pension. Thats like feeling sorry for Sprewell because he cant afford to feed his kids on 13 million a year.

hahaha...no i feel sorry for him b/c the only person he needs to be saved from is himself...no one is causing undue harm on him

im def not saying they shouldve kept him...and while i say good riddance, im not happy to see him be left out like that, even though he did it to himself

    Re: The Marcus Vick situation

I cant feel sorry for him because he is immature because hes rich and had everything handed to him. For some reason thats just not a good reason to feel sorry for him. I dont however think hes a "bad" guy. I just think hes your average 21 year old, whos constantly in the spotlight so what he does looks a lot worse because its in the media and such. Hes basicly under a mircoscope.

Like I said before though, lil Vick will go to the NFL and develop into a solid player.

    Re: The Marcus Vick situation

Anybody 21 years old should know better than to do any of the stuff he's done. I don't feel a bit sorry for Division 1 athletes that are living a dream for most people and they take it for granted.

    Refs take on the Hokies

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree a couple of those PF's were uncalled for but there were also a few bogus call too. One was where a UL player was getting blocked by a VT player and the UL player punches him no less that 3 times in the facemask with the ref looking on, what is called? Offsetting PF's! And the Burchette hit on Cantwell was BS. It was a clean hit as the ball was leaving his hand. It's a wonder they didn't call one on JHam when he knocked Cantwell silly, had to call a TO.
