Thomas Jones: Absent from Voluntary Workouts

RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com
Saturday, May 6, 2006
Update: Bears' running backs coach Tim Spencer shrugged off speculation that the team's signing of Tony Hollings to a two-year contract could be a precursor to a Jones' departure, the Chicago Sun Times reports.

Recommendation: "[Jones] was our starter last year," Spencer said. "There ain't no question we've got to have Thomas. That's why I am saying I hope everything gets squared away so I can get my man back." Jones remains absent at Halas Hall, where the Bears have had voluntary workouts four days a week for almost a month. He's not required to report until next month's full-team minicamp.

I think the last line sums up everything for Jones. If he doesnt show up then, we will know hes holding out. He shoudlnt though, it would be a bad move on his behalf to do that. Though Jones is a hard worker, and he doesnt need to show up to "voluntary" workouts. He will be just fine, as long as he doesnt hold out.

Though you know he is working out on his own, voluntary workouts arent voluntary. They just have to be called voluntary due to rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Hes basically holding out but still staying in shape.

i see nothing wrong with that, if he's working out on his own...it's like not going to work, but getting paid for it
