Consolidation...

With the thought of consolidation around the corner every school year, getting closer and closer as each school drops enrollment, and year by year the idea sounding more money sufficient to the school boards, is the idea of consolidation good or bad?

Seeing that it would be hard for all of the schools rivals are basically the ones they would be joining with i would see it as a problem getting the kids to get along in school much less in playing sports together.

with schools in our area it gives alot of kids the chance to do what theyve dreamed of if they love sports even if they dont have much ability. But with bigger schools there would be the best of the best...better teams...lesser oppertunity ..and i think that athletics in school is somthing that everyone, if they want to should experiance because there is nothing like it.
How does everyone feel on this issue and how long do you think it will be before this does happen?

Screw sports. As much as I love sports, the walk by the high school in Pound Friday night reminded me why Wise County needs to do what has to be done.

Sports is not that much of a consideration when consolidation is considered by the school board. Sports is most important to the public since it is all they see of the school. Being worried about how the kids will do with each other and whether or not they will play together is not a problem either you would be surprised how easily the kids will make the transition it is us older out of school for years people who will have the most trouble making the transition.

I am like IndianDad I am a Blue Knight through and through and will be heartbroken to know that my alma mater will be no more but I do realize that it is what is best for the kids and getting the best EDUCATION they can with more resources and better facilities all around.

You are correct the School Boards biggist cinsideration is probably the 200+ angry parents that show up at the meeting (Now it is debaitable as to how many of them are influniced by sports)

I am gonna say the 90% of them have the agenda of sports behind whatever they say. They will come up with all kinds of other reasons and arguments to plead their case and all of it will be with sports as the driving force behind it.

You are probably correct.......BTW is Consolidation being considered again? I really thougt it was going through last time but after the big turnover in the School board I assumed it was a dead issue for then next several years and with the news that enrollment actualy went up this year that would solifify that position

And I also wish some schools would quit worrying about not wanting to wear another school's colors and not wanting to go to school with them because they are rivals with that school. People need to care more about the well being of their education than whether or not they hate that other school in athletics or whatever.

Yes I understand that you may like your school but would you risk it screwing up when you don't consolidate or would you suck it up and do it for the education.

Really hate to slam people but some acted very immaturely about consolidation last year at the school board meeting. This is setting a terrible, horrible, no good example for the kids in the county.

As an '06 PV graduate, I hate to see PV go as a school. But this is what is best for the kids in Big Stone Gap and Appalachia. Whether we hate each other or not.

Don't be a coward and go to Burton or Lee High because you don't want to go to school with people from your rival school. You will only be running away from what's best for you. If you do happen to feel like you will get a better education at Burton or Lee High then knock yourself out. As long as it's for the right reason.

Is this the answer? Enrollment is up. READ the paper , what about on-line classes? The schools in the towns will have to be moved way out of the town limits or the land will cost a fortune. [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]
