Re: Scores...

I'm not comparing anybody's schedule to anybody's but since you brought it up how many teams do you think PV has beaten that has a winning record? You mentioned that Haysi beat Clintwood(5-4) and Honaker(6-3) for 2 wins over winning teams. How many wins for PV over teams that have a winning record? I'll go ahead and tell you its 1. Clintwood is the only team they have beaten that has a winning record at this point. As for the other teams in division 2 Honaker has beaten 1 team with a winning record(Abingdon 5-4)...Clintwood and Gate City have yet to beat a team that currently has a winning record. So who do you feel is worthy of a #1 seed since you base your view over how many winning teams a team defeats?

    [ QUOTE ]
The system isn't that bad, but they need to come up with a different way to calculate out-of-state opponents power point ratings. Traveling up into Eastern Kentucky and Southern West Virginia taking on weak teams that play other weak teams within their state need to be looked at more closely than the current system does. That's my biggest beef. I also think a school should have to play at least 7-8 regular season games against in-state competition. We've seen a few schools ducking across state lines to face the above mentioned weak competition, and it only hurts schools that are facing tougher in-state competition. Hell, if they (teams doing so) think that's fair - then districts should be disbanded and let everyone within Southwest Virginia have the same opportunity to play Betsy Layne, Letcher County Central, Beckley Christian, Unaka, Montcalm, Big Creek, Tug Valley, etc., etc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A lot of that should change with next years scheduling from what I hear. I believe WV and KY are changing when their seasons will start year after next, and it will throw off a lot of teams ability to schedule them because of 2 year contracts.

    Re: Scores...

You are correct it is just one, but you must figure in that alot of those teams (coeburn, wise, pound, gate city,) are all district games which we have no choice in playing... Also this is a year that gate city is down we both know year in and year out that they are a power house and until this year Powell Valley was the only Divison 2 team to beat them. With 7 of our 10 games all ready scheduled for us we can't help their records.. But the teams we play out of district 2 of the 3 has winning records.

Haysi on the other hand has only a 4 team district counting themselves and the only compition being Honaker. So why don't you have Collie schedule some real teams insted of Rye Cove, Erivton, Letcher Centeral, Betsey Lane, and Grundy. Try on a Appalachia, JI Burton, Breathitt etc.

Those easy schedules are great for a pretty win/loss record and yes it will get you a number one seed in the playoffs. But when you limp thru like Haysi did last year... That easy schedule will get you beat by 24 pts or worse when you play a team with some talent (ie. Giles)

So yes i think Powell Valley should be the #1 seed but it dosent really matter cause it's only for one game. The championship will be played at Uva Wise as it should have been last year.

    Re: Scores...

I believe it should be left up to which ever team is hosting the Regional championship to decide were they want it to be played. As last year Haysi hosted it, so if they wanted to play it at Haysi, I believe they earned the right. Is the Reg Championship for sure at Wise this year, or will it be left up to the top seed?

    Re: Scores...

Didn't that limping through still lead them to winning Region D? PV didn't and its the same schedule as last year so there is not point in complaining about it. PV would have been beaten just as bad by Giles last year. Whoever wins Region D in D2 probably will be beaten that bad by Giles this year as well with the way they have been playing.

    Re: Scores...

The Regional is defently at wise... Both Division 1 and Divison 2 teams will play on the same day.

Being the state game is on carpet, it is my opinion a team should get all the experience on that surface possible. Plus it brings in bigger gate money and much better facilities then anybody else has for the team and fans... It is a win/win situation all around.

    Re: Scores...

You are correct they did win the region D, still i don't think giles would have been powell valley as bad if at all. Coach Robbins has a great record against Giles he is very schooled on the single wing.. And from what i seen from Haysi they was chasing players around like they was play backyard football.

    Re: Scores...

Lebanon is very good, but Giles returned everyone pretty much by Ricky Cook. Cook was good, but Giles has run rough shod over pretty much everyone by William Campbell I believe. I don't know that Lebanons defense can stop Giles when they give up 56 to Rural Retreat who is good, but not on Giles's level.

    Re: Scores...

They may have played a little better defense, but still Giles was the superior team to anyone in region D by far.
