    Re: predictions

    J.I.Burton vs. Riverheads.
Last year Burton had its chances against a very good WC team. Problem was they lacked the power game up the gut. This year the Raiders are faster, more physical and can pound the ball up the gut with fullback Miles. Riverheads is tough but the Raiders can pound it up the middle, scoot to the outside or burn you with the pass. The defense is solid but the secondary needs to turn around and look for the ball. Their coverage was good against RR and had they just looked they would of had several picks.
    Prediction:
    Burton 33
    Riverheads 14

    Giles vs. Goochland
This one has all the makings of slugfest. We know about the Spartans power game and the Goochland defense will be tested. Giles's lone loss was to William Campbell exposing the Spartans trouble with speed. Giles needs to not give up the big play and work the clock. Could be a repeat of last years game.
    Prediction
    Giles 35
    Goochland 28

    Richlands vs. Rockbridge
Rockbridge has improved each week during the playoffs and is playing their best football now. The Blues haven't played their best game yet. They have been on a mission since last years poor performance against Turner Ashby. Look for the Blue Toronados to cruise.
    Prediction:
    Richlands 42
    Rockbridge 14

    Re: predictions

i feel pretty good that all four teams in A and AA from the western end of the state will come out golden.

BURTON 34, RIVERHEADS 22: the raiders have too much speed, too many weapons, and a defense that's more than good enough. i really don't have to add anything to what's already been said here about burton.....that is except for, BEST OF LUCK, AND BRING IT BACK TO SWVA!

GILES 42, GOOCHLAND 13: speed or no speed, i don't see the gooch stopping giles. much ado has been made over the giles loss to william campbell due to speed. however, if not for a few breaks for the generals in the first half (a 70 yard td catch from a deflected ball and a giles turnover recovered by wc in their end zone), and a key loss in stud linebacker/blocking back, billy cook, giles would've came out of that game with a big win. last year's championship surprised even people in pearisburg....but they've been banking on this group of seniors to bring home the hardware for a couple of years now. giles rolls.

RICHLANDS 34, ROCKBRIDGE 20: on paper, richlands seems to be leaps and bounds better than the wildcats. personally, i don't see where they're not. however, rockbridge has this kid at qb named marcus mayo. he's a huge difference-maker. not to mention, rockbridge comes from the valley district, which some consider one of the toughest districts in the state (5 state championship appearances in the past 7 years). richlands is just too hungry for this one, though.

AMHERST 27, LOUISA 20: i know no one else took this game, but after watching one of the best high school games i've ever seen in amherst/salem, i can't help not to. want speed? amherst has it. everywhere. offensively, they are just a buzz-saw, and their defense is impressive as well. why the lower score? louisa will grind the lancers. they are athletic and love to run the ball between the tackles. if the lions have a defense good enough to take some options away from amherst, this one will be a good one!

    Re: predictions

Ladies and Gentlemen of Easten Va, Welcome to smash-mouth football!

    Burton:42 - Riverheads:14

Riverheads is 12-1, Raiders it has all ready been proven that riverheads are beatable; and you my friends have proven that your not! If riverheads gets the kickoff they will score first, and that will also be the last until the second string comes in as releif in the 4th quarter.
Congratulations 2006 Divison 1 State Champion Raiders.

    Giles:48 - Goochland:14

Goochland is there for a reason they have beaten some good teams, but now they run into a great team! Don't know what WC did but that was in week 5 and were in week 14 Giles buzzsaws the bulldogs of goochland.

    Richlands:42 - Rockbridge:7

Richlands has something to prove from last year and rockbridge is going to be the messenger.

Good Luck to all the teams!
Win with humility, loose with dignity.... the tropheys will come and you'll always be remembered as a champion.
