jokes about a teacher having affairs with students? no those don't. they make an already bad situation worse.

honestly, how would you feel if you were him?

I don't really know the man or the entire situation, but I have learned that sometimes all the info about a situation like this cannot be given out to the public. So let's be careful what we say.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Exactly. That's why in any meeting in which personnel are discussed, the board goes into a session that is closed to the media and public, a move that is necessary to protect the right to privacy by individuals working in the school system.
If what has been said is true, then Coach G should have expected some sort of action by the School Board. If they didn't act they would not be doing their jobs, which is what the voters elected them to do. I hate to see it happen, but you should expect to sleep in the bed you make.

If that's the case, I think this did indeed go way too far. I've got kids..and i know when they play sports I like to watch em. If that comment was made, I could have been taken out of context. For example there is alot of difference between walkin up to someone and sayin, "ya know..you have a big butt" and in the course of coaching telling someone to use their "big butt" when they box out. I know coaching football there is rougher language than that used. So the context of the comment is important as well.
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....

It doesn't matter if the guy had a step daughter or not. When you are served with a restraining order, it has to be followed. This isn't just a guy showed up in the stands and the coach didn't escort him out of the gym, going by what has been said, this is a guy who was assisting the coach.

What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

It's not such a new idea now, since the news is plastered with stories about teacher/student relationships nowadays. Wouldn't have been a problem in my day, as all my teachers were ugggggly!!!

i don't know how many times i've heard coaches call a player who was soft, a p*ssy...no one ever thought twice about it

The issue isn't the comment though sup-rbeast. If the comment is all there is to the story, then yes that is very very extreme. However, after there is a restraining order, you can't decide if its ridiculous or extreme, you have to follow it.

And they don't issue restraining orders nonchalantly, either. Must have been something pretty bad for that to have been issued in the first place.

    Re: news on godsey?

Very well said. I just find it hard to believe that a coach that has had the success that Coach Godsey had would take such a foolish and selfish chance. Most all of you have said some very positive things that paint a pretty clear picture. But, why would he put one person, who he knew could jeopardize his standing in Scott County Public Schools, above the players and the other potential players in Gate City? I hope Coach Godsey is a good man and if he is, I hope he does get another shot to pursue teaching and coaching. But, I hope he learned a very valuable lesson.
