Re: BOOM!
heres a C and P I found comparing Bonds to Arod
He is awesome, no doubt about it. He is on pace to hit 500 home runs by his 14th season, Bonds was short of that. His hr/ab ratio is better than Bonds' was after 13 seasons.
But, while not taking anything away from what A-Rod is doing, Bonds had 1357 walks after 13 seasons, A-Rod had 820, which gave him 537 more attempts. With Bonds hitting them at a 1 per 15 at bats at that time (he hit over 200 the next three years), he could have had another 35 at that time.
But, the real loss is how many walks he has gotten since then, almost 900 since 2001. It's also too bad that Bonds missed about a season and a half worth of good hitting, due to the fluke knee infection. Even without the injury, he could have retired with close to 1000 home runs had he been in the American League, or just not been walked as much. Too bad for him.
Also, after 13 seasons, a few other stats:
Steals:
A-Rod - 241
Bonds - 445
Strike Outs:
A-Rod - 1404
Bonds - 1050
Bonds will be passed by Rodriguez and be the home run king someday, but it will not be because A-Rod was a better home run hitter, it will be because Bonds didn't get the chance to swing enough and started a little later by going to Arizona State first. At this point in their careers, Bonds has a HR in each 12.9 at bats, compared to A-Rod's one in each 14.3.

Dont trip on the boy Pujols either. He hasnt played as long as some of these guys, but hes got the ring already and is off to the best start of a career in the history of the game.

Re: BOOM!
No way it could have anything to do with Bonds juicing up would it? Bonds is great, but the whole roids thing puts a big huge * next to his name in the record books.
-
Re: BOOM!
If you want to put an astrick beside Bonds's numbers, you have to put one beside everyone who has played since around 93...cuz there is no telling who all in MLB has done the same thing. The reason Bonds gets pointed out is because he has never been "media friendly", and he is approaching the all-time HR mark. Something you may want to think about too is A-Rod has played almost his entire career in the "juiced ball" era. While Bonds played a great deal of his when 50 HRs meant headlines at the end of the year. But, in his prime Bonds wasn't just a HR hitter...he was the total package. He could hit, run, field and throw better than most anyone in baseball..but overall he was the most complete. That is why he is the best of his generation. And he did nearly all of it while playing in "pitcher friendly" ballparks...not these short fences they have everywhere nowdays.

Re: BOOM!
Bonds is a cheater....i hope he doesn't break the record and if he does he needs an *. Also, the cyclist was on the news two days ago talking about that failed test...
-
Re: BOOM!
95 percent of all the stars from the early 90s til now cheated. So why does Bonds stand out to you?
-
Re: BOOM!
because he is setting records. I think everyone that cheats/ed should be punished or an * in the record books. bonds is getting the blunt of it because he is doing well. Professional sports are goin down the tubes though. It's all about the damn money and getting records set.
-
Re: BOOM!
and i wouldn't say 95 percent, that is to high a number...

Re: BOOM!
Bonds has always done well, and he would have set these records anyways. When McGwire and Sosa were "saving baseball" with thier HR duel no one had anything to say. But now it's Bonds and everyone wants to act as if he wouldn't be doing what he is without performance enhancers. When everyone was on Andro it wasn't illegal in MLB. To mu knowledge nothing these guys are being shamed for was illegal when they were doing it. And, it's not like he did it his whole career. Bonds was one of the best ever way before anyone (including him)was using anything to enhance their performance. Bonds didn't cork his bat (like Sosa) or anything like that. Plus, who is to say that all these heroes from yesteryear didn't use things to enhamce their performance? Science is better now so naturally supplements will be better. The argument has no merit as far as i'm concerned. So this is just what it began as...political power play. I hope he breaks every damn record in the majors just to make these hypocrites miserable.

Re: BOOM!
So what you are saying is you know for sure how many stars used substances that weren't banned in the 90s but are now as a way to enhance their performance. I don't hear anyone bringing up Brady Anderson, Palmerio, Sosa, McGwire,...any of them. And you can bet you behind that they have all taken something as well as nearly every other all star from that time period.
