Re: 756
I agree Rock,
Big Mac really wasn't all that to start with, I say he is a 4 or 5 ballot...
Ty Cobb, although in my mind is #1 or 2 candidate for All-Time Greatest player, would never even be a consideration for the HOF...Although he is the largest vote getter of all time for the Hall...You think Barry is the biggest A$$, well, you haven't done your baseball history, cause Cobb won that by a long shot!!!

Re: 756
mc gwire was a prolific HR hitter from the start
49 during his rookie year says he was all that from the start

Re: 756
McGwire
In 16 seasons, Mark McGwire accumulated these career stats
Games played 1874
Runs 1167
Hits 1626
Doubles 252
Triples 6
Home runs 583
Runs batted in 1414
Strikeouts 1596
Stolen bases 12
Batting average .263
In his 16-season career, Dave Kingman batted .236, with 442 home runs, 1210 runs batted in, 901 runs scored, 1575 hits, 240 doubles, 25 triples and 85 stolen bases in 1941 games played. He also struck out 1,816 times.
Like I said, McGwire was a better version of Kingman

Re: 756
Well he has a lifetime batting average of .263, which on of his seasons in Oakland he was benched the last 2 games to keep him from the embarassment of having a batting average bellow .200...He finished with a .201, and had been healthy all year....Alot of homers, but not exactly Hall worhty without them

Re: 756
I don't think Kingman should be in either
-
Re: 756
but lets face it 500 HRs has always been an automatic induction
had mc gwire not missed almost all of two consecutive seasons he would have finished with well over 600......and had he not reited when he did would have also passed 700.....not to mention he also missed half of each of his last two years
the time missed for injury also has to be taken into account........it always has been

Re: 756
palmiero also deserves to be in when his 5 years is up
as will sosa

I don't think anybody could deny that one. Bonds is a jerk in a time when that is not allowed. Cobb was a jerk in a time when it was just about praised. I think that may be one of the biggest differences is how their attitudes are perceived. There are probably some names in the HOF from way back when that would not go now based on behavior if their numbers were even close to borderline. It's a whole other world now. Is it right? Is it wrong? The debate goes on.

Re: 756
Yeah it has been but is it going to be that way?
Palmeiro had 569
Frank Thomas has over 500 homeruns, is he in?
Jim Thome is 10 away, will he be in?
I think McGwire makes it, but his overall game, not sure if he was a first ballot. If there had not been questions, then yeah, he probably would have been.

Re: 756
palmiero should be in......as will thomas
thome will hit more than 500 and he also should get in
