PV 54 LEE 14
RICHLANDS 48 GC 26
HAYSI 21 GRUNDY 14
LEBANON 26 HONAKER 24
APPY 42 CASTLEWOOD 0
JJ KELLY 36 TS 7
PATRICK HENRY 40 POUND 12
CLINTWOOD 36 COEBURN 14
BURTON 56 RC 0
OK here are my week 1 Picks with explanations
Powell Valley over Lee by 21 - Lee may be getting better BUT PV was a very good team that should have gotten better as well
Richlands Over Gate City by 14 - I think GC will field a better team than they did last season and Richlands will not be the same team they were however Richlands should be the fav in there 10 reg season games
Haysi over Grundy by 30 - Haysi will be better than expected and Grundy is very young this game will not be close by the end of the 1st qtr
Lebanon over Honaker by 14 - Lebanon runs the ball well and Honaker seems to have a tough time stopping the run however if ball can solve the fumble problems from last week Honaker could surprise me
Appalachia over Castlewood by 18 - Some things never change and Appy taking it to a Cumberland team is one such example
J.J. Kelly Over Twin Springs by 35 - Kelly is doing alot more talking than they have in years past and I believe that they will be able to back that talk up in week 1
Pound over Patrick Henry by 1 - My upset pick of the week (maybe the season LOL) Other than numbers I am hearing alot of positives from Pound and lets face it PH is not a super power
Clintwood over Coeburn by 30 - If it is closer than this then either Coeburn is better than they have shown or Clintwood has more to work on than I am thinking
Burton over RC by 40 - Not a knock on RC who will be IMHO 1 of the top 2 teams in the Cumberland but Burton is a VERY good team that will not think twice about running the score up on you if given a chance

Who says I can't have an upset special too?
LOL becouse that one is mine back when I picked Kelly over PV in 99 Rocketer came in and imped my pick and stole my thunder (to this day that is my finest moment in picking football games) this one would not be as big an upset but I am not seeing many others pick them
Oh my turn I guess
PV over Lee by 21. Closer game than score appears
Richlands over GC by 7. With Gate City being gone, not sure what they have or don't have.
Haysi over Grundy by 27. No matter what Haysi does or does not have, they will catch people asleep in the first game.
Lebanon over Honaker by 14. Honaker will improve each week, they just aren't able to beat Lebanon yet.
Appy over Castlewood by 1. Some reason, a 2 point conversion comes to my mind.
JJK over Twin Springs by 35. Kelly should have a fast start this year. Twin Springs should be just a blip.
Patrick Henry over Pound by 6. No idea what Patrick Henry will have, Pound may be able to pull this upset, but numbers could be a factor.
Clintwood over Coeburn by 21. I think it will be high scoring, or I'm afraid it will be.
JIB by as much as they want over Rye Cove. It could be very ugly.
We both had said all week that we thought Kelly would sneak the upset and got downed for it. You pick most games both ways so you can claim to be right
LOL I do give myself wiggle room......but I still consiter that game my golden moment when all was right in the world
A typical Counts prediction
"Team X will beat Team Y....unless Team Y throws the ball over 12 times, if they do that and hold Team X to less than 150 yards rushing. If they do that then it could go the other way"

Welp, 9-0 this week, started off the season pretty well.
I join you at 9-0. Good start
PV-Lee- the Gens are improved and have some talent. This will not be a breezy Battle Of The Boot win for the Vikes. PV keeps the boot, but they break a sweat 28-14 VIKES.
Richlands-Gate City- one of the reasons that I respect GC is the way that they schedule. This will be a learning experience, but it will serve the Devils well later on. Richlands wins 28-13.
Haysi-Grundy- if Haysi doesn't win by at least 4 TDs, they may as well drop football. Grundy is TW bad. 42-6 Tiggers.
Honaker-Lebanon- here kitty kitty! The big 'ol bruisers from Lebanon give Ball and Co a rough time. 21-6 Lebanon.
Appalachia-Castlewood- Dawgs start the season on the right foot. 21-6 DAWGS (football>life).
Patrick Henry-Pound-can anybody tell me why in the blue blazes of hell did the 'Cats schedule PH? PH romps 35-6.
Clintwood-Coeburn- here's the 1st friendly reminder what LPD football is boys (JJK will give you another). 35-14 Wave.
Twin Springs TITANS at J.J. Kelly INDIANS- the dawning of a new day, a better day on the Reservation. I remember well talking to the boys in the locker room after the loss at Coeburn, and the end of a nightmarish 0-10 season. I remember the bitter tears. I remember telling the kids that their coach was a winner, that if they busted their asses for him,the tears of hurt would turn to tears of joy, that the frowns would give way to the smiles. That day is at our doorstep. We have so many kids on this team who will be back for a couple more years. The sky is the limit guys. If you believe, you will achieve. I will see you guys on Wed, Thurs, and of course Friday (yes, I am getting to be as bad as LPD for the pep talking lol). 42-0 TRIBE.
Oh yeah: Burton is going to beat the brakes off Rye Cove 52-8

9-0 Too.
Somebody needs to keep up with the season total.
8-1 here.
Great job for you to do!

I think I went 9-0 as well. We seem to have gotten off to a good start this season.
I think I was 9-0 as well
I was 9-0 as well. I gotta admit though, most of the week 1 games were no brainers.
You all are making me not feel as smart as I thought I was when I first posted my 9-0 mark.
In all honesty, it was an easy week to pick. Alot of LPD vs CD matchups.
If it makes you feel better, Counts missed 1
Are you sure he missed it, or just mispelled his prediction.
lol nah he tried the pound upset special
bad part was I almost let him convince me...
First week usually is a good week for picking. I'll be lucky to be .500 at the end of the season.
