Re: Boxing/MMA Fights - local, national, world

Despite an August announcement from Jason "Mayhem" Miller (22-6) that he was "set" to take on Jake Shields for Strikeforce's interim middleweight title, the "Bully Beatdown" star today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) he's no longer sure what's next.

"I had announced on MyFightTeam.com that I was going to fight Jake Shields," Miller said. "But then they said something was wrong, maybe not.

"I'm not completely sure. I haven't got a bout agreement yet."

Miller also said a previously rumored third meeting between him and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza (10-2), at one time rumored for DREAM.11 on Oct. 6 – just five weeks from now – is also unlikely.

    "I don't think that's happening," Miller said.

Miller will instead wait for the heads of new partners Strikeforce and DREAM to map out his next move. And though nothing has yet been determined, Miller said he likes the idea of the fight with Shields – especially with a title on the line.

"I think [a fight with Shields is likely], but like I said, nothing's finalized," Miller said. "I would like to fight Shields for the **** strap."

In his first UFC fight since UFC 51 in 2005, Phil Baroni (13-11 MMA, 3-5 UFC) takes on "The Ultimate Fighter 7" winner and fellow welterweight Amir Sadollah (1-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in November at UFC 106.

Bout agreements have not been signed, but verbal agreements were secured in the past week, a source close to one of the competitors told MMAjunkie.com.

UFC 106 takes place Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and airs on pay-per-view

Good night of fights in the UFC.

If someone great ever got ahold of Melvin Guillard and was able to keep his head straight , he could be great.

I agree 100% on both accounts.

It was maybe the best fight night I have ever seen, the Quarry/Creduer fight was awesome.

And WHY MELVIN WHY??? He was dominating the stand up, just blasting Diaz, but he decided to go to the ground, even though he KNEW Diaz had slick submission skills.

After months of speculation, Strikeforce today announced it has officially struck a deal with CBS and will begin airing some of its events on the U.S. network.

The first show to air on CBS will feature the long-awaited Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers heavyweight fight, which is slated for Saturday, Nov. 7 at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT). Showtime Sports will produce a four-fight main card with a broadcasting team of Gus Johnson, Frank Shamrock and Mauro Ranallo.

Strikeforce executive Mike Afromowitz today told MMAjunkie.com a location and venue have not been determined for the event but should be announced in the next few days.

That is a major jump for Strikeforce, I bet Dana is not happy at all.

Melvin is one of those guys who has a ton of potential but will probably never develop it.
He seems to have a real issue with learning an effective ground game, especially a defensive ground game. Almost like he's a throwback to 10 years ago when you had good wrestlers who thought they could win at all levels with wrestling alone.

Re: Boxing/MMA Fights - local, national, world

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker Thursday confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that his middleweight champion, Cung Le, has booked another major motion picture role and will relinquish his belt.

Jake Shields and Jason “Mayhem” Miller will now vie for the undisputed title under the eye of CBS when the two meet at the promotion’s primetime network debut Nov. 7 at location to be announced early next week. A report on ESPN.com says the Sears Center Arena in Chicago is under intense consideration, citing sources close to the situation. The telecast will air live from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET. Coker was unaware whether the broadcast would be tape delayed to other parts of the country.

“I had a conversation with Cung and he has a lot of respect for Jake and Jason, and he’s got another movie coming up, so he’s asked me if he could step down, which we’re going to honor his request,” said Coker. “By no means does that mean he’s going to be retired, but he’s going to be unavailable for the next two months.”

Coker said he hoped to book the newly minted movie star again after his filming obligations are completed, though nothing was confirmed.

“With Cung, every six weeks we’ll be checking back with him,” he continued. “Now that he’s not going to be our title holder, we’ll put him in some big super fights and continue his MMA career, but not have the pressure of defending his belt when he has movie opportunities.”

Miller and Shields were expected to face off in October, but the bout, and event, never materialized. Both pointed the finger at one another for the delay. Miller on Thursday confirmed the fight via his official Twitter account, stating, “I duck NO ONE.”

Shields was unavailable for comment, but his manager/father, Jack Shields, said “we’re just pleased it’s happening. We’re happy to be back with CBS. With both of them doing the show, I’m sure it will create a lot of interest, and we’re really happy to be on the card with Fedor.”

Miller (29-6-1) hosts the MTV reality show “Bully Beatdown,” on which Shields has made multiple appearances. He last fought in late May, where an inadvertent illegal knee he threw in a middleweight title bid against Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza forced a no contest stoppage.

Shields (28-4), a former EliteXC welterweight champion, defeated former EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler in early June, stepping up from welterweight to a contest limited to 182 pounds in Strikeforce’s second major card televised by Showtime Networks.

Re: Boxing/MMA Fights - local, national, world

**** you burton, I had that copied and ready to paste but you beat me to it.

    Shields will dominate Mayhem tho.

Mayhem can't beat Jacare, he cant beat Shields.

It sucks because Cung is fun as hell to watch. His striking is world class.

I would like to see him in the UFC, let him fight A. Silva.

Anthony 'Rumble' Johnson has been doing his training with Cung Le, imagine how nasty he will be if he develops the striking qualities of Le.
He is a big WW, I hope he continues to improve, and gets a fight with GSP.

I know GSP isnt human, but I do think AJ could give him all he wants. He is such a big WW, he would not be taken down that easliy at all, itll be the first match that GSP doesnt have a size/strength advantage.
