BRISTOL, Va. ? If there was such a thing as pressing a do-over button in the basketball world, perhaps Twin Valley coach Brian Moore would have mashed down on the thing during the opening 17 minutes.

Instead, Moore watched as Sullivan Central put together a scorching shooting display ? which featured a head-shaking 13-of-18 first-half performance ? during Saturday's Highlands
Union Bank Tip-Off Classic championship contest. The end result was a definitive 63-49 victory for the suddenly streaking Cougars, their first-ever Classic crown.

"When a team shoots like that, no one is going to beat them,"? admitted Moore, whose squad never owned a lead against the Cougars. "I've never seen a team shoot like that since
I've been coaching. You have to give them all the credit."?

While the overall performance from the Cougars ? that being a not too shabby 22-of-39 shooting effort ? was simply overwhelming for much of Saturday's title tilt, Central (8-4) not only did it against a Twin Valley unit known for their defensive toughness, but also against a harrowing situation involving one of its veteran players.

During Central's 14-0 run to end the first, forward Mickey Brown ? in an attempt to grab a high-arcing rebound ? came down full force on his right arm. Brown was forced to immediately leave the game in what appeared to be a severe dislocation, putting the Cougars in a precarious situation.

But instead of imploding and maybe even surrendering the lead, Central continued its focus of high-percentage perimeter shots and extended zone defense against the cold-shooting Panthers (4-2).

"We knew that without [Mickey], we had to play even harder because he gets us into our offense,"? tourney MVP Nathan Vannoy said.

In fact, the Cougars opened up their lead to a whopping 25 early in the third, as Vannoy ? who finished with a game-high 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting ? drove home a layup for a 43-18 Central cushion.

"In the first half, I thought we played about as well as we could play,"? noted Central coach Tony Vaughn. "We also were shooting the 3 well, and that's something we've haven't done all year. It was good for us to finally step up and do that. Defensively, we also did a pretty good job as well."?

The Panthers, despite struggling mightily from the perimeter, put together one last ditch effort in the second half. Not only did Twin Valley whittle the lead down to 16 midway through the third, the tourney runner-up received three consecutive 3-point baskets from Hunter Simpson to pull within 57-46 ? its closest margin during second-half action ? with 2:59 remaining.

Simpson paced Twin Valley with 15 points, while teammate Garrett Horne added 13.

Lebanon 62, Volunteer 48
During Lebanon's opening-round tourney victory Thursday against Marion, forward Cody Compton surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his storied career. On Saturday, however, the multi-faceted Pioneer distanced himself from that momentous plateau even further.

Along with 20 points from teammate Jerome Cobb, Compton swished home a game-high 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting to help Lebanon (5-1) post its most impressive victory of the young season.

What made the win even more exemplary was Lebanon's uncanny shooting ability. One could count on two hands the amount of misses ? nine ? that the Pioneers had against hard-luck Volunteer (5-7).

"It felt really good tonight,"? said Compton, who played a major part in Lebanon's 23-for-32 shooting heroics. "We haven't shot well all year, so it was about time we started hitting some shots."?

Behind early shooting from Aaron Bennett, who went for 13 of his team-high 20 in the first, the Falcons quickly jumped ahead 14-3. But after a 30-second timeout, Lebanon continued its relentless man-to-man and full-court press against Volunteer.

And eventually, the lead was no more. After grabbing the lead with 1:56 left until halftime, Lebanon increased the advantage to 10 points at the end of third ? holding the Falcons to just three third-quarter baskets.

"I couldn't be more proud of my team tonight, especially to play an AAA school out of Tennessee like that,"? Lebanon coach Thad Lambert said. "We knew what we were up against coming into the game ... and they had us on our heels early. After the timeout, I thought our defensive intensity picked up tremendously, plus our pressure really gave them a lot of problems."?

Chilhowie 63, Abingdon 57
It's rare that a team ? especially a high-school team ? finds itself facing a five-game week. It's even rarer that a team has a full tank of proverbial gas left by that fifth game.

Enter Chilhowie. Thanks to a stellar shooting effort (24-of-42), the Warriors limited Abingdon to just one meaningful basket over the final 5:35 to claim perhaps the tournament's biggest surprise.

"We had one day off this week [on Friday], so we worked on defense in practice for a couple of hours that day,"? said Chilhowie coach John Sabo, whose squad stayed close despite committing 11 first-half miscues. "We wanted to hustle and get after them on defense. We also wanted to play four quarters ... and it showed tonight."?

Down 52-51 with 5:35 remaining, Chilhowie switched its offense into more of a spread-like format, with Tuff Williams taking center stage. Williams, who drained five of his final seven shots, connecting on back-to-back baskets to give the Warriors (2-5) the lead for good.

Along with 15 from Williams, forward Seth McKinney went 7-for-8 from the field for a game-high 16 points. Teammate A.J. Smith added 14 points for Chilhowie.

"We've had some tough games, but we pulled it all together tonight,"? McKinney noted. "We played like a team."?

Colby Hunt paced Abingdon (3-4) with 14 points, while teammate Jacob Hess added 12.

Virginia High 59, Marion 41
A much better shooting effort from host Virginia High was sufficient enough to turn away Marion (2-2). The Bearcats (6-1) shot just a tad under 46 percent (21-of-46) on an effort that netted 23 of the game's initial 32 points.

"The shots fell today,"? VHS coach Jason Stevens said. "I was interested to see how we would come back after the loss to Twin Valley [on Thursday]. A win is a win ? and I'll take it every day."?

Bearcat guard Corey Young continued his torrid early-season shooting, canning four treys en route to a game-high 15 points. Josh Moore joined Young in double figures with 12 points, along with teammate Josh Tignor (10 points).

Marion's Gavin Roe finished with a team-high 13 points.

Coeburn 70, Honaker 54
Andrew Adkins drilled three 3-pointers en route to a game-high 24 points for the Blue Knights (3-3). Phillip Riner added 17 for Coeburn, while teammate Andrew Pate contributed 13 in the victory.

The Tigers (1-5) had three players ? Ethan Davis, Clark Dye and Josh Vandyke ? end the contest with 10 points.

J.J. Kelly 50, John Battle 37
Devon Miller had a team-high 12 points for J.J. Kelly, which took charge of Saturday's opening consolation contest behind a 19-6 third-quarter surge. Matthew Dotson poured in 11 for the Indians (5-2), while teammate Joseph Collins had 10 to pace a balanced attack.

Michael Johnson was the top scorer, finishing with 17 points for John Battle.

Yes, it was a hard fought game with 2 technicals on pv girls in the second half. They got frustrated and showed it. They looked pretty good though, and will only get better.
