Yep BIG differance IF the straight into old schools consoladation had happened (as was the case during this whole mess) Burton would have Had 4 teams on there schedule with 400 student advantage in numbers if Lee had also made the move and 6 in 2 years after DC opens)

Besides I am just going with what I had been told so who knows..... Cant think of any other Legit reason for the district switch (More travel time, smaller gates, lesser competition) Loseing Pound and Appy would be legit conserns but I am sure Gate City would not mind helping fill out your schedule LOL

GC and Norton would still be playing had Norton not dropped them.

Why would Burton join the Cumberland? They would dominate it in football.

None of this made any sense when I first heard this, but after some research it made perfect sense for Burton to try to slide out of the LPD and into the Cumberland District. To start with Burton doesn't have the numbers the rest of LPD will have in the near future and their playoff chances will get dimmer as the consolidation moves forward. Second the LPD as a district is very strong and very physical and a Burton not having numbers they really need to find a way to keep it's players healthy for a whole year, and you can't do that in the tuff LPD even Pound and Appalachia though small will play physical with you. And Third the Cumberland is the 15th rated A district (out of 16) in the Commonwealth, hence all the reasons you need to want to move. Weak district, non-physical teams, easy pickings for a team that needs to keep players healthy for a playoff run, and probably district champions every year regardless of talent, or lack there of from the rest of the district. So on the end what would you rather be 3rd place in the LPD and players hurt or 1st place in CD with healthy players. Oh and by the way the LPD ranked second as the best A district followed closely by the Clinch Mountain.

Clintwood only has about 50 more kids. I think Burton was around 260 and Clintwood 310.

Dogwood has to be #1?

Also hard to believe the LPD and CMD are that high in the rankings. Is this football only or as a whole? As a whole some of the Region C districts are very good.

It is for football only. Dogwood District is number one, and Clinch Mountain is fourth instead of third. (Three Rivers is third) . The research kinda blew me away too, I didn't think CMD would be that high.
