"If one thing stands out about Clintwood football in particular, it’s that, well, the kids stand out, like offensive tackles Austin Kelly (6-foot-7, 339 pounds) and Tyler Hamilton (6-2, 358). The three middle O-linemen average 6-1, 223, which is kind of on the scrawny side compared to fullback Austin Dotson (6-2, 234).

Clintwood’s MVP may be the lunch lady. She apparently feeds them well."

I'm glad for Clintwood, and proud of the LPD and far Southwest Virginia. I've always held a lot of respect for their fan base, even in high school as an athlete. They were always competitive, but classy win or lose. Always happy to see gold coming home to the LPD!

Re: A state champion for the LPD!!!

I don't think I've ever seen one team improve so much through the course of one year. Its incredible, and a testament to just how good Rick Mullins really is. I mean yes, he has talent and a group of hard nosed, gritty kids who leave it all on the field, but he brought this team back from the brink. Do you know how hard it is to get kids to believe after losing like they did to Grayson County? CW improved in every game, and that includes the playoffs. This is not the same team that Union had down 20-0 or that beat GC by a point, this is well-oiled machine that peaked at the absolute best time.

CW guys have to be really proud, it almost NEVER happens when a team loses their QB, in the playoffs nonetheless, and keep on rolling. Its unheard of, and shows just how much better the team had gotten over the season.

Congrats guys, it couldn't happen to a classier bunch.
