I swear I started a thread about Alex Smith but i can't find

I was talking about how I really pulled for the guy because he just never gave up in SF. How no matter what, he just kept believeing he was an NFL QB. I can not find that thread for nothing. That being said, Smith has a really good shot at a super bowl ring. That niners defense is just something of a throwback to about 10 years ago. they hit you in the mouth, put you on the sidelines and they do it all within the rules of the game. I can now see the Niners in the SB and winning it all whith Smith, Davis, Gore and that "D" playing lights out.

This 49ers team brings back memories of the Ravens team that won it all. I believe Smith is better than Dilfer though, don't believe Willis is as good as Lewis was.

Ray Lewis is a total animal. He is one of the 5 best ILBs in history.

    But PWilly is a BEAST!

The NFC runs thru SAN FRANCISCO!!!!

Alex made some throws yesterday that only elite QBs make. Maybe Alex isnt elite, but that sideline throw to VD late in the fourth was NASTY.

maybe with a coach that actually cares about the positon and not changing cordinators every year, maybe the guy has a real chance now to be a good solid NFL QB

In my mind, Lewis is the best ever. That he is still competing at such a high level after this many years of the physical abuse to his body even further solidifies that. He is also one of the best leaders I have ever saw.

Edit: Best ILB ever, just clarifying.

IMO he's the best pro player to ever come out of Miami...and that's saying a lot. First-ballot HOF'er for sure. Ed Reed is right there with him too.

I'm a huge Canes fan as folks know, but my favorite pro team since I was little is San Fran. During their struggles in the past few years when I had no one to really root for in the playoffs, I've pulled for the Ravens. If they both make it to the Super Bowl...wow. That'll be a crazy game to watch for me personally. If they both happen to lose this weekend, go Giants.

I agree with your assessment. I give the edge to Ray though, he's been the best at his position for well over ten years and that is a tremendous feat. Also, I think even Ed would agree that ray has been the leader of that defense. That takes nothing away from him however, he's a top notch player.

I'm a Cowboys fan, but when they are eliminated I find myself being a Ravens fan also. I despise the U, but mad respect for Ray and the Ravens style of play.

See I slightly disagree. I said I believe Ray is a top 5 ILB of all time, but I believe Ed Reed is the best safety to ever step foot on a football field. He is good in run support and hell against quarterbacks. Ray has been doing it longer and is no doubt the better leader, but I believe Reed's on field performance slightly edges Lewis'. Reed has an incredible 8 INTs in 10 career postseason games, if that does not define clutch I dont know what does.

I could see an argument because Ray won a Super Bowl and Reed didnt, but I believe on the field, Reed has been more dominant at his position.

But all of this is ever so close, like razor close.

Re: I swear I started a thread about Axex Smith but i can't

I can live with Butkus being better than Lewis. I can't live with Singletary, Harry Carson, or Nitschke being better than him. I'm not old enough to remember Jack Lambert. I remember Singletary and Carson very well and I'd almost put Urlacher in Singletary's league. I think Urlacher would have been pretty good playing alongside the guys Singletary played with.

Now, as far as Reed goes, I won't argue Ronnie Lott. Rod Woodson was a corner so I don't put him there, but I cringe seeing lists with Head and Shoulders above Reed. I've never understood that. Give Baltimore Rapistburger and you win championships.
