Consolodation?

Just heard on a channel 5 newsbrief that if you went to school in Wise County, to get ready to make new friends. Seems to me, by the way the news brief was talking that consolodation had been voted on and approved tonight? Any one know what is going on? You know lately there seems to be a Wave Vs. the whole LPD thing. I can now understand why with your comment. How will you like it when Clintwood is no more? Will you like it? No i didn't think so. Laugh but this is not the last word. Sorry and those who seem to have a resentment from Clintwood. Well you had your chance no one stood up and said anything. So when no one remembers the Wave don't ask why. We all can say the Wave? Who were they? All i know is what ever they call the new consolidated schools in Dickenson County. That umm includes a school formerly known as Clintwood and their nick name was the Greenwave.
How does that make you feel? Yeah just what i thought.

Whatever. Maybe Rockwood wood be funny also. I don't think so. Do you? Not hit home yet. But it's about to. Before Wise county does it. Dickenson will. Let's see how some like it when there is no more Clintwood or Greenwave. I don't think to many will like it. Say what you want. But you won't.
You will lose your identity. It may say from the Clintwood area. But not Clintwood Highschool or the Greenwave. Think about it. Identity lost. And in a few yrs totally forgotten. That is the sad truth of it.

Consolidation will be a big blow to a lot of these smaller communities. Haysi will almost be a ghost town when Haysi High is gone...

At this point Im just glad I have first dibs on our picture on the wall.

If you have paid attention to comments in the past, we've done discussed Clintwood several times in the past. It's done been approved over in Dickenson County. Counts in particular has ranted on this several times. How will we feel? Well we'll feel like anybody else who has it happen before, we won't necessarily like it, and some people will hate it no doubt, but guess what, most of us are able to step out of our respective Greenwave or Tiger or Rebels gear and realize that for the sake of our county, and maybe not just the sake, but the survival of the county, its a necessary evil.

I totally appreciate the concept that smaller classes and a lower ratio of students/teachers helps an education. I also totally appreciate the idea of different classes and a broader education, I totally appreciate the idea that it costs more per student per day than it does at larger schools.

You can throw Clintwood up all you want, and yeah I'm sure that our time will come, like I said, our population didn't like the idea (in particular the smallest school Ervinton) but we also realize that you can't afford to keep up the costs associated with shrinking enrollments and increased costs. Will we be forgot? Oh I'm sure its likely we will, but we won't be the first, we won't be the last. Pennington Gap had a pretty good program, but it appears that they are no more. Christopher Gist was pretty good wasn't it, but you know they are no more. I'm sure there are people who wish they were still there but times do change.
