If Basturn was ready to retire then why did school board give him a 4 yr contract . now he will be able to draw social security plus severance pay. could have been planned?

HOW'S THAT HOPE AND CHANGE WORKING OUT FOR YA ??????
they are paying him out of the schools money...thats sad
They should have never hired him.
amen to that haha
Well I will comment on the severance pay Mr.Basham got. I'm sure he was more than glad to recieve. But I just wonder did he ever stop to think about any severance pay for all the teachers and staff that was going to be without a job? I really think that he never thought about anyone but himself. I hope he's happy now, cause I'm sure happy now that he's gone.
Teachers work on yearly contracts.

I wish people would know the facts before they post?
As was stated in the separation agreement text, both parties (Basham and the School Board) agreed that there was not reason for termination under the stipulations of his contract. If that was indeed the case then the School Board had no alternative, but to either keep him on the job or buyout his contract. I believe it was necessary for him to leave just to restore order and "clear the air". The School Board could have been forced to pay the entire amount left on his contract -- about 38 months. That would have exceeded $300K. So, to have him gone now without possible legal problems (and even more costs) one could consider the $203K figure a "bargain". Not attractive to most, but I think it was necessary under the situations. Now the School System can attempt to start again fresh and hopefully go forward from here.
......and I thought truth was universal. Silly me......
