Avast! is a pretty good anti-virus application and it's the one I personally use, although I'm not entirely sure how it compares to the other freebies out there.

Yep, running on Vista right now and have had zero problems.

    Here are the downloads:

The "Home Edition FREE" program is probably the one that would be best overall.

You can get some pretty good programs from http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/

Windows Defender is GREAT. If a site poses a threat it warns you before you enter.
Also their Spyware Terminator is good as is ThreatFire.

Will you ever rise up and fight for your God-given rights? History shows that evil triumphs when good men do nothing.

    Re: Free anti-virus programs?

According to me it is good thing for your computer that you have installed the antivirus softwere and Anti-virus software provides a number of viruses, Trojans, worms, spyware, adware, dialers, keyloggers and Rootkit infections essential layer of protection. The traditional anti-virus program is detecting viruses and spyware removal software just detected spyware, but now the anti-virus and spyware removal between the ill-defined. Most anti-virus software, all forms of malicious software detection rates at least pretty good.
