My barracks at Ft Bragg was in the path of takeoffs from Pope AFB. There's nothing more impressive than a bunch of huge transports (C-141 and C-130) taking off one right after the other. I've had DZ duty when the DZ was prepped by A-10's for a few minutes, followed by heavy drop aircraft, and finally the personnel pax. All from 800 feet. Talk about living an airshow.
They flew over the college on Tuesday as we were working on the fields. I know every year around the time RAM is at the fairgrounds, the Red Cross does some kind of training and bringing in supplies...at least that was I am told from people at the airport. But that doesn't explain the planes.
Earlier today I saw two P-51 Mustang's chasing after what looked like the German Luftwaffe, but I could be wrong.

No you're right, they had a live feed of it on CNN earlier.
Years ago I had been working in Fayetteville (punishment I believe [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img]) and was leaving for home and stopped at a convenience store in Spring Lake . I was using a payphone outside when a flight of A10's came out of Pope . If I had desired , I could have hit them w/ a favorable size chucking rock . The sound was deafening as they had just lifted off and not even started to climb yet .
Life is a grindstone . Whether it grinds us down or polishes us up , depends on what we are made of .

One of my best friends used to call me when he was on float in the marines, he was on a small carrier that had Harrier jets on it. He was on the phone two decks below the flight deck and when one of them would take off or land it would bust your ear over the phone through all that steel.
