<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> Here, it runs between $12,000 and $15,000 with no house. Most of the land here has been stripped, so I would hate to see what prime farm land would cost</div></div>
??? Who in there right mind would pay $12,000 - $15,000 for an acre or striped land...... Land must be ALOT higher over there in Wise Co

Re: CONSOLIDATION
Price of land in western PA is far more than $5K an acre
You might be able to find some that price but that would be rare
http://www.realtor.com/search/search...d=28495&typ=20 (very reliable site used by MLS subscribing realty companies)
examples of random acreage:
$9,000 for 0.17 Acres in Franklin PA
$159,900 for 1.8 Acres in same area as above
$9,900 for 0.5 Acres in Meadville PA
$15,500 0.69 Acres in same area as above
$37,500 for 1 Acres in Hayfield PA
For Wise County I found these prices:
"4.038 acres located on Alt 58 just outside of Coeburn, recently surveyed, public water is available..................$8,000" ($1981 per acre)
"26.058 acres, level and cleared, previously the old Coeburn Dragstrip, recently surveyed, public water is available .........$59,900 " ($2303 per acre)
"25.5 acres of prime real estate located just minutes from Big Stone Gap. Property is level and joins the Powell River. $98,000" ($3920 per acre)

Re: CONSOLIDATION
new buildings will help the learning environment
i can only speak on PV, and its been four years since ive been in the school, but when its hot outside, esp for a big guy like me, learing is bout impossible. the labs are disgusting, not enough computer access, shitty outdoor trailer rooms where the floor is falling in, math classes in a field house(maybe thats phil tho haha), etc....

Re: CONSOLIDATION
Has anyone calculated the savings of consolidating from a stand point of the energy cost savings from modern facilities through heating & cooling? Does anyone know what the counties budgets are yearly for maintenance for the schools in question? I bet just the maintenance budgets alone over a 10yr period would cover the cost of a new school.

Re: CONSOLIDATION
It has all been studied to death. The savings aren't that much. You will now pay to cool the schools and aren't at this time. The ball now rests with the folks that own the property and must fund the building.

Re: CONSOLIDATION
I had a chance to meet the new superintendent this week and talk with him briefly.
I think he's going to be good for the county if he stays. I think he understands the area and the challenges.
If/when consolidation takes place, there are many different scenarios that could play out. I've heard many people talk about transferring their kids to different schools to avoid sending them to a consolidated school. At this point, it's all speculation.

Please. I mean, we need to consolidate. Plain and simple, and some person gets on here with no real solution as to why cons. should NOT happen other than I GOT DAWG PRIDE BOOYYYZZ. *headdesk* Mark Hutchinson is not going to save you, sorry but he won't and can't. You never know what actually goes on behind closed doors. & just because his wife works at Appy does not mean a darn thing. People open your eyes. This consolidation will benefit every school board member, and they know it.</div></div>
How is consolidation going to benefit every school board member????????
