Police say Nashville school official paid kids for sex acts

The man who supervises Metro school bus drivers was arrested late Saturday and charged with hiring children to provide him with sexual gratification.

Bob Epley, 56, has been indicted by the Davidson County grand jury on three counts of especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of aggravated sexual battery, according to a news release from Metro police spokesman Don Aaron.
Third official charged

He is the third Metro schools employee charged with a sex crime this month.

Police say Epley had hired at least three children ? ages 9, 14 and 15 ? on various occasions since last October and paid them to place him in a stranglehold with their legs "in order to create an autoerotic sensation."

The police report noted that Epley remained clothed during the "episodes."

The children said Epley videotaped the encounters at a friend's apartment, police said. The children all live in the same apartment complex.

At this time, it does not appear that Epley used his position with Metro schools to lure children, according to the news release.

Police say other children may have been involved and are asking anyone with information about Epley's activities to call the department's Sex Crimes Unit at 615-862-7540.

Epley is being held on $75,000 bail.

This is the third incident this month involving sex crimes allegations against a Metro schools employee.

On March 22, Donelson Middle School teacher Ronald Boykin was arrested on warrants charging him with two counts of rape, one count of sexual battery by an authority figure and one count of attempted sexual battery, dating back to 2005 when he was working at a Chattanooga high school.
Quirk enabled hiring

School officials say a quirk of Tennessee's criminal background check system allowed Boykin to find work in Metro schools.

On Saturday, Boykin was charged with five child-sex crime counts involving two boys who attended Donelson Middle. He now faces three counts of sexual battery by an authority figure and two counts of statutory rape by an authority figure.

On March 6, Ronald B. Anderson, executive principal of Kennedy Middle in Antioch, was arrested on 12 counts of sexual battery by an authority figure.
