Had to go to inlaws yesterday evening and the drive in was open or appeared to be on Tuesday night, what was going on?

There is still a treasured place from the past still in business here today just waiting for you to visit. Located on the old route 23 just outside of Norton or Appalachia depending upon which way you travel is a jewel to behold. Many people wish they could go back into the past and visit some of the classic restaurants and recreation areas once here such as Bessie’s Diner in Appalachia, Cabs Donuts and the Steak and Shake in Norton, and Rim Rock Railroad and Recreation Center at the top of Powell Valley Mountain. The reason these names are important is that these were beloved and cherished businesses of the past which were open at the same time as the Central Drive In Theatre. The Central Drive In has always provided family entertainment at a reasonable price. Since opening in May 1952 the Central Drive In Theatre has always tried to provide wholesome entertainment for the entire family. The drive in is a place for families to come and be able to watch movies in a relaxed atmosphere without the need to worry about noise and other people around them. The relaxing environment here at the Central allows us to cater to large parties or groups, from coal company employee retreats, to medical and other professionals who would rather use the drive in for their events. Some even rent the location for private large invitations only. The Central Drive In Theatre can accommodate over 400 cars.

Another proof positive example this experience can be attested by Kids Central selecting us for a second time in a row here at Central Drive In has been our Kids Central Family Night. Kids Central and the Central Drive In Theatre partnered together to allow children in Southwest Virginia to attend a movie at the drive in, something that some of them may never have been able to do otherwise. The Central’s relaxed environment allows you to “hop in the car and come as you are”, because we want you to feel comfortable as you set back and watch your favorite movies on one of the biggest screens left in the country. We will be showing the all new Transformers 3 Dark of the Moon starts Tues night at 12 midnight here at the Central Drive in we will open at 6:30 so come early and get your favorite parking spot.

Starting Fri July 8 will be CARS 2 at 9:15 then Transformers 3 right after Cars around 10:45
Cars 2 will only be playing that one week that is why we are open every night to give everyone a chance to see it here

Starting July 15 New and Final Harry Potter at 9:15
Second Feature will be Green Lantern

Starting this Friday July 22 we will bring back Cars 2 rated G for one final week. It starts at 9:15. The second show will be the final Harry Potter at 11:15. These two movies will run from July 22 to July 28. Thanks!
