    School board meeting 4/11/11

on right now, so mad at myself for not going to this one. So pathetic what the 4 did last night from what I heard. It's even worse hearing these arguments these people repeat over and over again, gangs, drugs and the whole list of baseless ridiculous junk.

Jeez, all those with Masters degrees going to Wise? Who comes up with that? No surprise Betty thought there was some truth to it.

Only Hutchinson would be against picking teachers based on how qualified they are and the best choice for the students, as opposed to just picking them on seniority.

Anyone else as ****ed as I am after what they did last night? That kills me, I'll definitely have some choice words for all 4 of them next meeting.

And I hope Mr. O goes and runs to tell his three, well four new buddies what I said. Brown nosing all throughout HS, still doing it at these meetings.

Sorry for that bit, I just kknow that all that's said on here about them is reported back to them by this brown-noser.

Once you get into the work force, maybe you won't be so naive about something like this. The fact is, many older teachers have been in the system for years and deserve to keep their job over a new hire. But, the pay for teachers goes up based on senority...so a new teacher is cheaper than an older teacher. Once a teacher has tenure, they can't be let go without cause...and that's what this argument is over. The teachers should be kept based on senority or the school district will have a HUGE court bill accrue fighting the teacher's union. School districts are dirty, and many will try every way in the world to have teachers let go for various reasons..whether it be because they have a backbone and will stand up to parents, will stand up for themselves, or maybe a relative of a big wig wants a job in a subject area where there are no openings. Tenure was designed to let school districts have a trial time with a new teacher...once they establish tenure, they shouldn't be let go without cause. The county school system will find out you can't have your cake and eat it too if they try to keep newer teachers over the ones that have been there the longest...because they will be paying out court fees and lawsuits. If they want to get rid of some of the older teachers, maybe they should put them together a severance package that is too good to refuse. Because lost wages aren't only missed in the present, they also take away from your life long total earnings when it's time to draw Social Security, which can reduce the amount you draw until you die. Like him or not, Hutchinson is right on this one. Ya know R13, to be a Democrat you sure think a lot like a Republican...
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....

IMHO the more qualified teacher should fill the open slot (That is how it works in the "Real World") But seniority should play a large roll in determining what a qualified teacher is.......IMHO tenure is about the worst thing a job could have because there are plenty that figure once they hit that mark then they can coast the rest of there career so long as they show up and stick in a movie in for the class and avoid sleeping with any students

In the "real world" you get paid a fair market price for your services too. Teachers have 5 years of college typically and start out making around $29K... tenure and benefits are necessary to bring people into the profession. Now days teachers have to be "highly qualified" according to NCLB and have a valid certification (which expires every 5 years)from the state to even keep their job. So, really, all are qualified...and senority should be the determining factor as to who stays and who goes. Anything flying in the face of that is just more good ol' boy politics at work.

Perhaps we should pick a "cut off age" and kill ourselves? The bunch just out of school is always more "quailfied" and should be allowed to pick thru some old guys job.:rotfl: Reagan would have loved this stance.

LOL $29 K starting out with 7:45 to 3:30 hours (Including Lunch and "Planning Period") with 6 to 8 weeks off in the summer never working when the weather is bad is not out of line with this area as for there Market value.

Bottom Line is IF I have more skills than the guy in the cubical next to me his being hired 2 weeks before me should NOT be the determining factor in who stays and who goes. Anything flying in the face of that is just more good ol' boy politics at work.
