Odd, to see me typing this, but I can see the reasoning, to a point. By the time that the testing catches the bacteria, the food is most always already out in the markets and in the food supply.

thing about it is though, they have a way of knowing what is causing the people to get sick so they can PULL it off the market. without that system in place they will have to trace back even more than they do already. there are plenty of other places we can cut budget wise besides the safety of our own people.

    Re: ummmmmmmmmm ok?

I understand what you are saying, and I am certain they catch a lot of stuff before it hits the supermarket shelves. But they have let several things go unchecked and our food supply has suffered for it. Look at the lysteria outbreak last year with the cantalopes. This same system was in place and should have caught it before it got so far out of hand. Even when they finally figure out where the problem was, there was nothing but a "blame game" happening from top to bottom. Maybe scrapping it and not funding is not the answer, but our country's "checks and balances" for food safety needs some serious updating.
