Hampton man found shot, dead at home
It's unclear when he died. If the case is ruled a homicide, it would
be the city's 10th this year.

HAMPTON -- Charles Cox was leaving for work early Monday morning when
he noticed his neighbor's convertible in the driveway with the top
down and the door open.
It was the same way Tuesday.
On Wednesday, when he left the house at 5 a.m., the driver's side door
on the pearl-colored BMW was still wide open. Cox called the police.
They found his neighbor, Russell Livingston Jr., dead in the house
from a gunshot wound.
Hampton police could not say how long ago Livingston died, but said
they had reason to believe it was a homicide; the city's 10th this year.
Investigators cordoned off the home at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac
in the Michaels Woods subdivision and spent most of the day searching
for clues.
Cox knew Livingston from Howmet Corp., where Cox worked a few years
ago. Livingston was a tungsten-inert gas welder there.
Neighbors say it's the first time they've seen one police car in the
cul-de-sac, let alone a dozen.
"It's a tragedy," said Patty Balod, who lives a few doors down in the
neighborhood off Big Bethel Road. "He always had a smile on his face."
Neighbors say the 37-year-old Livingston moved into the neighborhood
when the homes were first built in 2000. He had a wife and two
children, but after he and his wife broke up about a year ago,
Livingston lived alone in the two-story, four bedroom house, they said.
Livingston was a quiet neighbor, always said "hi," and never caused
trouble, said Balod.
Although she didn't know the man well, she cried when a police officer
told her he had been killed.
"When you're used to seeing somebody, it hits home," she said.
Neighbors were suspicious when they saw the convertible's top down and
door open, especially when there had been thunderstorms forecast.
"The car didn't look right," said Cox. "He doesn't leave it like that."
But they couldn't believe Livingston had been killed.
"I was just hoping he had left in a hurry." Livingston was arrested
Saturday in connection with a domestic violence complaint. He was
accused of assault and battery from two occasions over the past two
weeks, court records show.
He was due in Hampton District Court on Tuesday for a hearing on the
charges.

Yeh all I heard was he got killed read his Obit and never heard another thing about it. I remember him being on the cover of one of the basketball previews. That seemed like one of the more exciting eras in the LPD for Basketball.
