had a chihuahua for around 15 years and i cried like a little bitch when he died. Let him outside to take a shit and never came back. Pretty sure he was blind and deaf when he died though so we knew it was coming. Also had 2 cats around 10 years. One had diabetes and we had to put her to sleep and the other got sick as well and we had to put her to sleep. Damn i miss all the pets i had as a kid.

i dunno what it is, i guess its because people have their pets and become so attached, but ive noticed that when people have pets that die, they become seriously depressed.

especially if its a pet that youve had for a long time.

like my cat, i got it when i was 2 years old. i was 22 when it died.

my cat meant a whole lot to me, because we took it in as a stray, she just showed up at our house one day.

i was lucky that it lived as long as it did, most cats dont live 20 years.

2 of our 3 cats we took in as strays. 1 was given to us by someone. All of em became fat and lazy. Guess they had it too good living with us. Now that i think about it they always loved sleeping on top on the cabinets in the kitchen i guess where no one could reach em. And as soon as u laid down to go to sleep at least one would jump in bed with u and pass out right on top of you.

    Re: I don't know why....

My mother's dog turned 17 yesterday, and she (the dog) is in a rapid old-age decline. I dont know how many days she has left but even though we know it's coming it's still going to tear up the family. I dont even want to imagine what it will do to my mom. A constant loyal companion to her for 17 years. This dog has been there for nearly half my life!

And when our 3.5 year old dachshund died it was particularly hard especially because it was an unexpected premature death. There's feelings of guilt, mourning the years you never had with them, not knowing if they were in pain, etc. I had to take 2 days off work over that.
    You'll shoot your eye out.

Pets>humans no doubt. A pet will love you no matter what, accept you in spite of your faults and flaws. I echo what elp said. Losing our dog Pickle gutted me as well. I'm not too macho to lie and say that tears did not come. I miss her much still.

I'm going to say the same reason one of my 20+ pound, almost 8-year old cats likes to sleep on top of the little 13-inch TV and his twin brother likes to sleep under the piano stool. Or why, in July, I will find one of them asleep on top of the other one who has burrowed under the covers. They're cats. That's about the only reason I can come up with.
Looking for my Darcy, but finding only Wickham. Right now, I'd settle for Bingley.
