    [ QUOTE ]
"My view of the world, Republicans benefit the rich to much and Democrats benefit the poor and people who refuse to work"

My view of the world is a close to that but just a little different. Republicans benefit capitalism and also those who feel it is their responsibility to work for a living moreso than democrats. Democrats benefit socialism and those with the idea of personal entitlement moreso than republicans.

[/ QUOTE ] In the local life I don't care which party it is. However, in the big time politics it becomes evident that money is more concerned with money. Look at the deficit, see what shape the armed forces are in, how tired are the warriors, what shape is the machinery in? Most won't face the truth- even if it won't change anything. How many can really remember the first Bush or Reagan? Should you become something? Just fix what you have. Fix a government that allows the bankruptcy of the pension plans of the jobs that the country needs to keep the wheels turning. The tax dollars that pay the college aid and helped fight the wars. Work all their life then cut it after they are too old to argue. If we don't find some way to get folks some jobs to work , we will find that hungry folks get desperate. They will do anything to feed themselves, get what they need , if you don't think so, just read the paper and the arrests in it. Yes, there are jobs. No, they are not the greatest. Would it hurt our country to help it's people more? What do you think? If the oil company needed 500 million dollars for research , do you not think it would be wise to get some in the rest of the jobs? I mean, they got food stamps, disability(and some really need this) and ALL this FREE college stuff that I never even heard of before, so why not make things a little more attractive for employees? I agree with you on that...the gov't has certain responsibilities and they don't always live up to them but i'm just against people thinking the gov't is supposed to somehow be responsible for their welfare to a point that they lay it all on uncle sam.

I agree BGJ. I worked my way through a BA and a MS and had no help from the government. Clinton stated that all Americans had the right (I repeat, right) to attend college. teaching friends I have at MECC say the biggest problem they have by far is lack of attendance. Kids (and older folks too) sign up, get their checks, and attend the minimal number of classes. Education in American has been watered down, from K through college, so that no one has to work hard. Here it is, come and get...your gift from the dems.

I am an independant, but I have a graduate assitanceship that is very demanding, plus internships, so I can't work a second job. My GA doesn't pay enough, it comes down to about $7/hour and I only work 20 hours a week on the clock, though it usually comes out to about 25-30 by the time everything gets done. It just makes me so irate when I see all of these other ppl in my program that get loads of money and it kills me...guess I'll just have to tighten the old money belt a little more.....

I would like to see some of my tax dollars go somewhere that someone is willing to work. Another thing is the "Half an Idea" thing. Abortion is a good example. Most folks aren't in favor of abortion. But if you save the child, what does one think the parent that didn't want the kid is going to do with it? These are the kinds of programs I'd like to see pushed, if you don't stop the parent from having more children....then back to the first kid. How is it supposed to learn ,go to college and find a job? Stop things so this cycle isn't repeated? You can't just throw money at problems, but half an answer ,isn't much help. This is where I'd like to see some tax dollars spent, I'd rather see them spent monitoring the proper use, than in the abuse mentioned earlier . I'm not for giving any tax dollars away, but in some cases, we must have answers or the problem will eat money forever. I guess what I'm saying is the "Moral Platform" was nice when some ran on it, but we really never see much change. I'm thinking if you work , your children can forget the financal aid when college time comes. The student loan lasts how long? How long to pay for an education? It might be time to look at moving some college level classes into the high schools and cut the cost of an education. Wonder how much tax money a college gets during it's life?

[/ QUOTE ] This is what needs taken care of. It should be grades and attendance or no cash.

Exactly. It should be monitored heavily.
