Obama not speaking at Tech on Martin Luther King Day

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama won't be coming to Virginia Tech to speak on Martin Luther King Day. University officials were hopeful that the potential presidential candidate would be coming to Blacksburg as the keynote speaker for Tech's celebration of the holiday. But Obama won't be traveling anywhere over the next few weeks as he mulls a presidential bid, Tech spokesman Mark Owczarski said.

"With all due respect to us, if he's kicking the presidential tires, I guess he doesn't want to be in Blacksburg, Va.," said Owczarski, who pegged Obama's chances of coming to speak at 50 percent last month.

Ray Plaza, project specialist for diversity initiatives in Tech's office of multicultural affairs, said the university learned late Tuesday that Obama probably won't be able to make it to Blacksburg.

"The issue is we don't know when he's going to announce and he has sort of a freeze on his schedule," Plaza said. "I think any other year, we'd be fine."

Tech is expected to announce its keynote speaker for Martin Luther King Day sometime in the next two days.

"If not today, then tomorrow," Plaza said Wednesday. "We're trying to move very quickly."

The Rev. Jesse Jackson spoke at last year's celebration.

Yes, we can't afford a limo now. "Bush the wise", 6 years into the war(Iraq has lasted longer than WWII) has now decided that he must balance the budget ,after wasting the surplus he got when he took over. Wonder why he waited till the thing wouldn't take place till he was gone to start it? And they called the last one "Slick Willie"?
