I believe in regulation..because pure capitalism only works for a small percentage of the population. There needs to be some protection for the have nots.
Any specific issues aside--just a few general questions related to our economy...
You--personally, do you believe that Capitalism should flourish no matter what the consequences? Even if it means the destruction of the middle/lower classes and nearly 100% of the wealth in our country being controlled by a very low percentage of our population?
The reason why I ask, I hear a lot of people speaking out against regulation/laws b/c it's "communistic/capitalistic", but moreso than that--because they believe Capitalism is a purely American economic system and is the best way to go--even in it's purest form, no matter the cost. I'd just like to hear some POV's on this from both sides.

...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....
There has to be regulation, has to be, it's much needed now also. I just think people are so damn naive and gullible when it comes to capitalism it's insane, they buy into the "work real hard, you'll be rich" fairy tale that they're fed and it couldn't be farther from the truth...but we put up with it. Then the factor that keeps it running, greed, or as it's called...competition, the whole system continues to screw over the entire nation. We've become so obsessed with the evil socialism, that we let big business come in and do exactly what we're afraid the gov. would do, take advantage of us...but hey, as long we aren't socialist, everything is fucking peachy.
Pure Socialism or pure Communism is no worse than pure Capitalism. I think elements of all three economic forms are needed to have a stable economy that enables upward mobility within the class structure. Sure, the rich don't want any Socialist or Communist elements in the governmental structure...BUT, at the same time, it's their greed that drives Capitalism...and that's not a good thing either.

R13 you are right. Working hard doesn't guarantee you to get rich. Capitalism does provide the best opportunity to over socialism which "keeps everyone equal". But, if you work smart/hard with great ideas, you do have better opportunities to improve yourself via capitalism.

Prove anything I've said wrong or stfu, your usual one-liner posts, but hardly ever return to back anything up.
I'll agree it definitely increases your chances and that's a good thing. I'm not for socialism as in getting rid of capitalism, but capitalism with regulations. In a system that runs on greed and cut-throat business, there has to be rules. Does it open the door up for more opportunity? Sure, but mostly the opportunity to be born into money, to luck up or just marry into it...it's nothing like what it's mascaraed to be, rarely are people paid adequately for their contributions to society, which is what we're told capitalism is supposed to be all about. I just don't buy into it, many flaws and the majority of us get the short ends of the stick. It's basically created a straight out plutocracy here the good ole US of A.
