Does God think?

the other topic "What does God think?" got my attention. I just want to ask this question, Does God actually think? or since he is the knower of all, knows the past/present/future, does he actually "think"?

Re: Does God think?

Well if you believe that he is omnicient, then he wouldn't have to think in terms of creation, because he would already know. Yet how did he create our universe (if you believe that) if he did not have a thought/think?
I do believe that he does think, because we were created in his image and we think and have thoughts, so God would have to as well, IMO

He himself said that His thoughts were not our thoughts, nor His ways our ways.

Re: Does God think?

The Bible also says God repented ( from metanoia, meaning change one's mind). Sure he thinks. And I bet He's mad at the Winchester refs from the JIB game!

Re: Does God think?

Just for curiosity's sake, do you know where that is in the Bible?
Just my thoughts on this here, but if God repented, then wouldn't that mean that she/he would have sin, and God cannot dwell with sin, so would that negate his/her being God, right? I understand that metanoia means to change one's mind, and who I am to say that God can't change his/her mind, but if it means to turn away, then a whole new can of worms has been opened.

Re: Does God think?

I'll find those references for you (there are more than one). My entire point is that repent means to change one's mind, to turn from (sin, a decision, etc.). In no way am I saying that God sinned. The references indicate that He turned (repented) from a decision due to the peoples' prayers. From the Greek, meta (change) noia (from nous (= mind).

Let me find those references, and I'll get back to you.

Re: Does God think?

God changed His mind about destroying Ninevah, after Jonah preached God's judgment upon them. Then Jonah got mad because God "repented" (changed His mind) and allowed the people to live because they "repented" (changed the direction they were going in), all the way from the king down to the lowest citizen.

God also "regretted" creating man after man moved so far from Him. He also "repented" of His original decision to destroy all mankind by saving Noah and his family.

Does that make God an imperfect being?? No, I think it just shows all the much more what a merciful God He is, and how He truly wants all to be saved. He sure gives us all enough chances.

Jonah 3:10, Exodus 32:14, II Samuel 2:16, Jeremiah 18:8
These are a few of the references.

What does God think? Actually means: Does God approve of what is being done. Actually the Bible will tell you how and what God thinks.
