Talking to the principals is not going to change the officials, nothing will. We just have to hope the good officials continue to do good and ref the bigger games and trust that all officals will officiate to the best of their ability.
But, principals go on the advice of officials (they are the one's on the floor, field, etc) when it comes to suspensions etc.
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....

There's always been good and bad officials...but, heck, we're talkin b-ball officials...and that's a sport I could care less about. At least the playing here in SWVA blows as bad as the officials...lol

I think SWVA Basketball has performed as well as SWVA Football at the state level over the past 5 years. Both Twin Valley and Gate City have come as close as any football team of winning the state title.

The problems that we have in officiating right now deal with the mentorship of younger officials. You say that the official should take it upon himself to make himself better. Okay who should guide that person? Who should tell him how to do things? Do you read it from a book? Yes there are camps out there to go to but how many people can afford to take a week off from work and go to a camp to officiate a high school sport? How much does an official really make working a game? Most do it for the enjoyment of the sport. To give something back to a sport that they once loved to play. Yes we get paid but by the time you pay the gas prices and equipment fees and dues, etc how much do you really make. Most people do it to have a good time. I work hard at what I do and try to make myself better but not everyone can or will go to that extra mile for what most consider a hobby.

If anyone wants to change the association it is the principals that have to do it and they have resisted. The officials have asked for change but it has not happened and we are the ones catching hell for it. If you go against the establishment and lose then you will pay for it in the future. The people that make the decisions in the AOA are not the officials but the principals.

Then I guess if someone is WELL known as a whiner by many people, it`s safe to say they are still and will continue to be that way

Just to digress back to Mr. Cane's Comments. You may think what you want, but many of us can go back into records and check on issues of technical fouls and ejection. And after looking, I can find 4 technical fouls and ejection that fell your way.
All I was trying to say is that you have complained about officiating since I have known you. You continue to bring up people's pasts. For one, I can not remember a time that a faculty/staff team has won a championship in IM sports at UVa-Wise, It Has NEVER happened. For the fraternity you speak of: they earned evereything they have ever won and to use UKCats1's comment, I have always been harded on them than anyother team. Since I took over, more people play Intramural Sports, more teams have won the All-Campus Championship that the frat you speak of, and everyone from Student to Staff have personally told me I am more fair than the last guy that was in charge.
Just admitt it, you like to complain! That's all I wanted to say.
Does the officiating need to get better, Yes, no doubt there! I continue to critic myself everyday. A mentor of mine in graduate school once told me, "if you ever think you know everything about officiating a sport, it's time for you to retire for that sport". I try to get better everytime I go out there. You can ask any official I have ever worked with that at the end of each game I ask them what did I do good and what do I need to do better.
Many of you need to realize that most of us want to do a good job and want to get better. I take pride in calling a fair game and know when I leave the field/court, that I did my job and the team that won, won it fairly!

It's easier to call someone a whiner and dismiss it as such instead of turning the magnifying glass on yourself and seeing if you're doing a good job or not. Guess you'll stick to name calling instead of actually examining your own performance.
Good luck getting any better in that case. Congrats on the kids that will continue to get hurt on your watch.
