And another baseball question.

Here is a question for all our Umps out there. In a varsity baseball game is it required that the batters box be laid out prior to the start of a game? I asked this question because in a recent game the field was prepared and in immaculate shape but there was no batters box striped. The home teams batters were standing almost on top of the plate trying to take away the outside pitch and in bunting situations were way up in the box and in my opinion out of the box.

I would think so. I remember a lot of teams used to be creative, and make it look real nice by leaving out the interior lines, and only the front line where it would meet the foul line. Now even the majors have full squares. Also catchers boxes weren't always marked or adhered to, but as I said above, you see catchers boxes in the majors now when you didn't always have them.

If you are in the strike zone when hit by a pitch, is it still a strike?

Can you as an umpire make them put the batter's box down?

By rule the batter's box should be chalked/painted
