Well, if you do it for money you are in the wrong business anyway. Just my opinion. You are right Counts, EVERYTHING you use for officiating from mileage, shoe polish, shoe strings, uniforms, undershirts can be used for a tax write off. I think mileage is 44.5 cents a mile I think.
How does a new official train?
Little League, Rec games, JV games. Any opportunity to hit the field or court you can get, especially with an experienced official.

Which proves that 99% aren't in it for the money doesn't it? I am not going to say everyone isn't because sure, you will have one or two who probably is, which I don't like a bit. But, the pay isn't much as compared to other things one can do for a shorter period of time in a similar situation.
