Gloucester Township Police’s new 911eye emergency dispatch system lets emergency service operators see video live-streamed from a caller’s phone, giving first responders an idea of what they’re getting into before anyone is sent to the scene. For now, the caller has to activate the livestream with a link sent by the 911 dispatcher, which allows operators to use the phone’s camera and microphone. But this is the first step down a very slippery slope.

911eye, developed by Capita Secure Solutions and Services in conjunction with West Midlands Fire Service in the UK, represents a step toward frankly terrifying surveillance infrastructure that can turn any internet-capable device into a remote-activated surveillance tool. West Midlands Police were the first to embrace “pre-crime” technology in the UK, developing the National Data Analytics Solution to sniff out potential offenders and divert them with ostensibly therapeutic “interventions.”

If the fact that it was developed by the people behind the real-life version of ‘Minority Report’ isn’t enough reason to give 911eye a wide berth, take a look at Carbyne911, one of its competitors. Funded by deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein through former Israeli PM Ehud Barak, Carbyne911 markets itself as the solution to mass shootings. The program – founded by current and former Israeli intelligence personnel, which isn’t at all worrisome given that this country spies on the US so extensively it scares Congress – lets emergency dispatchers commandeer the camera and microphone of any internet-capable device within a certain range of the person who made the call.




Investors include Peter Thiel, whose company Palantir has been described as “using war on terror tools to track American citizens,” and its advisory board includes Patriot Act co-author Michael Chertoff, the former Department of Homeland Security chief. At least two US counties have reportedly adopted Carbyne911, despite obvious privacy issues (and the fact that while most of its employees and personnel have military-intelligence connections, few have a background in emergency services).

Of course, bad actors don’t need an “emergency services” app to turn your phone into a spying device. Israeli spyware manufacturer NSO Group’s Pegasus software has been wielded against human rights campaigners, journalists, and even politicians by governments including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, according to Amnesty International, which has sued the company for allowing its software to be weaponized against peaceful activists.

And how does Pegasus work? The hacker sends the target a link, and as soon as they click on it, the hacker can use the target’s smartphone camera and microphone as surveillance devices. Which sounds an awful lot like 911eye’s business model – but you can trust them. They’re the police, and they’re here to help.

Castro *wasn't* wrong.

Biden either misstated his position just moments earlier, or was being disingenuous about his health care plan.

This is what he said that sparked the dispute:

"BIDEN: Fifteen seconds. Look, everybody says we want an option. The option I'm proposing is Medicare for all -- Medicare for choice. If you want Medicare, if you lose the job from your insurance -- from your employer, you automatically can buy into this. You don't have -- no pre-existing condition can stop you from buying in. You get covered, period..."

Notice that Biden says "buy in" *twice* -- which sounds like it requires an affirmative action on the part of a person to enroll in Biden's version of "Medicare for all" (Or "Medicare for choice", or whatever he's calling it).

That's exactly what Castro was pointing out when he responded a few minutes later, trying to differentiate his health care proposal:

"CASTRO: ...If they choose to hold on to strong, solid private health insurance, I believe they should be able to do. But the difference between what I support and what you support, Vice President Biden, is that you require them to opt in and I would not require them to opt in. They would automatically be enrolled. They wouldn't have a buy in...

BIDEN: They do not have to buy in. They do not have to buy in.

CASTRO: You just said that. You just said that two minutes ago. You just two minutes ago that they would have to buy in.

BIDEN: Do not have to buy in if you can't afford it.

CASTRO: You said they would have to buy in.

BIDEN: Your grandmother would not have to buy in. If she qualifies for Medicaid, she would automatically be enrolled.

CASTRO: Are you forgetting what you said two minutes ago? Are you forgetting already what you said just two minutes ago? I mean, I can't believe that you said two minutes ago that they had to buy in and now you're saying they don't have to buy in. You're forgetting that."

If you would have listened for another 30 seconds you would have realized that Biden then reinforced his actual statement and did it correctly. Biden is experienced and ready to roll over Trump if we don't shoot ourselves in the foot by listening to characters like Julian Castro!

Nice try. This is what Biden said in the 30 seconds afterwards, which has *nothing* to do with the discussion of buy-in, but everything about who would pay for health care:

"BIDEN: And if you notice, nobody's yet said how much it's going to cost the taxpayer. I hear this large savings, the president thinks -- my friend from Vermont thinks that the employer's going to give you back if you negotiated as a union all these years, got a cut in wages because you got insurance. They're going to give back that money to the employee?

What he said in response to Bernie Sanders thereafter was an even more bizarre, seemingly off-the-cuff claim that, "Every single person who is diagnosed with cancer or any other disease can automatically become part of this plan."

What does that even mean-- that you have to be diagnosed with a disease to be "automatically" part of Biden's plan?!

And then he goes onto a nonsensical word-salad, which doesn't even parse with what he's said already.

"SANDERS: ...Under my legislation, people will not go into financial ruin because they suffered with a diagnosis of cancer. And our program is the only one that does that.

BIDEN: I know a lot about cancer, let me tell you something. It's personal to me. Let me tell you something. Every single person who is diagnosed with cancer or any other disease can automatically become part of this plan. They will not go bankrupt because of that. They will not go bankrupt because of that. They can join immediately.

And we're talking four, six, eight, ten years, depending on who you talk about, before we get to Medicare for all. Come on. I've been there. You've been there. You know what it's like. People need help now, hope now, and do something now."

In short, Biden is making things up as he goes. He has no actual plan.

Yesterday was Star Wars Day. May the 4th and all that. Maybe I?m a little old to be celebrating a movie, but whatever.

As I reviewed the events of the past week it reminded me that Star Wars, at its core, is about the pivotal moments in history and the changing from one political order to another.

Be it the fall of the Old Republic in the prequel films to the end of the Empire and Palpatine?s rule in the Original Trilogy. We even open The Force Awakens with Kylo Ren wiping out the last group of people who still revere the Jedi to begin his quest to consolidate power amidst the chaos.

Star Wars has always functioned as a mirror to our current political drama. Films emerge every generation to reflect where we?re headed as a society. Maybe that?s why the new films aren?t as well loved by a part of the fan base, they are telling us things we don?t want to hear.

So maybe it is fitting that this week?s events were all so indicative of what is happening in our world today.

The post WWII institutional order and political elite are old.

And the old institutional order is failing.

The outdated and old enmities between the U.S. and Russia led to a series of disastrous decisions by men and women who are obsessed with overcoming their thwarted expectations of enhanced power and prestige.

There was Operation Bay of Fat Pigs, coup-attempt which unfolded in real time in Caracas on Tuesday. John Bolton was ?snookered? (H/T to Moon of Alabama for excellent reporting on this) by Venezuelan officials into thinking they had the military and supreme court on their side.

When Juan ?Random Fall Guy? Guaido made his move and no one else did, the U.S. was caught televising live their own ineptitude. And then laughably tried to blame the Russians for it.

While it is clear that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro had outwitted him, Bolton apparently continues to rail on U.S. Southern Command leadership and President Trump to invade.

Why? Because John Bolton is old, inflexible and well past his use-by date for coherent foreign policy decisions.

Lindsay Graham wandered in out of the bathhouse to wonder where our aircraft carriers were and why weren?t they sending a clear message to those pesky Russians?

And everyone else around the world is wondering what the hell are people in D.C. smoking?

If May?s goal is to destroy the British government in preparation for selling the country lock, stock and two smoking barrels to the European Union, then she may be the only truly competent politician left in the West.

They all just look so old and like a bunch of sorry has-beens getting together for a Love Boat 30th anniversary special instead of serious people with serious policy solutions.

The DNC is in the midst of a coup attempt of its own by Cenk Uygur and the Justice Democrats. Their only choice is to rally around Pedo Joe Biden who is fully implicated in the RussiaGate mess with his deep ties to Ukraine where so many of the lies about Trump originated.

Biden is 78. Bernie Sanders is is about to be.

The European Union is staring at the worst kind of blowback to its brutal strategy to deny Brexit. The latest polling has Nigel Farage?s Brexit party pulling from all parts of the British electorate to become the dominant party heading into the polls in three weeks.

If this keeps up he?ll completely change the face of British politics and all of this EU inevitability will dissipate like a fart in a hurricane of populist anger.

Lastly, don?t think that Trump will not put as much pressure as he can on these people. Barr has already begun the process going after Nellie Ohr. There is a possibility we?ll see Trump actually get a few scalps here.

And that may include telling Sheldon Adelson to get stuffed and begin reversing course on the insane levels of aggression emanating from the White House.

There comes a point when you look around and realize something isn?t working. None of the people I?ve talked about here can or will admit that they?ve failed. They are politicians, they can?t show weakness.

Trump has the opportunity here to use all of this to his egregious advantage. While the Democrats lose their collective minds Trump took a long phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin and immediately made it public.

Embarrassing him and the U.S. the way John Bolton and Mike Pompeo did this week with Operation Bay of Fat Pigs will not sit well with Trump. He?s been asked to sell a policy it doesn?t look like he believes in.

Trump is in re-election mode now. And Venezuelan regime change is not a winning strategy, neither is letting RussiaGate go. The key for him now is to undo a lot of the damage that?s been done by his staff, disloyal cabinet members and recalcitrant bureaucracy who are all wedded deeply to the old way things are done.

Those old ways aren?t working anymore. And if any of these people want to remain in power and pass it along to the next generation they better start acting like the humanitarians they purport to be. That means giving the people what they want ? Hillary Clinton?s head on a pike, Brexit, and an end to the creeping technocratic totalitarianism outsourced to Google, Facebook, Twitter and Apple to get around the Constitution.

Houses divided into as many factions as we see all across the west will not stand. They not only invite the crises on our horizon they accelerate them.
