Why Use Aluminum Polymer Capacitors? | Wurth Elektronik: Electronic & Electromechanical Components > News > Blog: World of Electronics

[h=Construction of Solid Polymer Capacitors]3[/h]At first, the construction of polymer capacitors seems similar to that of aluminum electrolytic capacitors — you have the anode foil, the cathode foil, and different paper separators in between.
But the similarities stop there. Instead of a liquid electrolyte, the polymer capacitor has a certain monomer that will be filled into the separator element. Afterward, the so-called aging process (or drying process) will begin. After a period of two and eight hours, the polymerization process will start, and eventually the liquid monolayer will be transformed into a solid polymer.
Here are some of the current developments in the realm of polymer electrolytic capacitors:

    • 5.000h —> 10.000h —> 20.000h
    • 125 and 150?C
    • 100V - 125V
    • ESR << 3,5mOhm

[h=Why Use Aluminum Polymer Capacitors?]2[/h]Our last two blog posts have covered the technical basics of the two main types of aluminum capacitors ( traditional electrolytic and solid polymer) as well as the pros and cons of the traditional sort.
In this post, we will look specifically at the polymer type and how it compares to the traditional construction. We will conclude our blog series on capacitors with an overview of the enemies and applications of aluminum electrolytic capacitors in general.

    The Elevator To Another World

Only one person can play at a time. You can only perform this ritual in a building at least 10 stories high with at least one elevator in it. You cannot proceed otherwise.

    Instructions:

    Traveling:

Enter the elevator from the first floor by yourself. If anyone else gets on then understand that you cannot continue from the first floor and wait until the elevator can be taken alone.Press the button for the fourth floor.Do not get out when the elevator reaches the fourth floor. Stay in the elevator and press the button for the second floor.Do not get out when you reach the second floor. Stay on the elevator and then press the button for the sixth floor.Do not get out when you reach the sixth floor, remain in the elevator and press the button for the second floor.Do not get out when you reach the second floor. Stay on the elevator and press the button for the tenth floor. Some have reported hearing a voice calling to them on the second floor during this middle section of the ritual. Do not reply. Do not answer in any way.Do not get out once you have reached the tenth floor. Stay on and and press the button for the fifth floor. It has been reported by some that a woman may enter the elevator on floor five. She may appear as a stranger who wishes to engage with you. More importantly, she may appear as someone you know. It is important that you do not acknowledge her in word or glance. If the elevator you are in is reflective then stare at the floor or the buttons only. Now press the button to head to the first floor. If instead of going towards the first floor you instead begin to ascend to the tenth then you have performed the ritual correctly. However, and this is very important, if you instead do descend to the first floor then you have done something wrong. Get off on the first floor immediately. If the woman is on the elevator then remember not to acknowledge her.If you reach the tenth floor, you can either stay on the elevator or exit the elevator. Some have reported that upon attempting to leave the elevator, the woman will try one last time to engage with you. She may raise her voice and ask where you are going or ?what?s wrong?. She may shriek as you cross the door?s threshold. Keep your wits about you and do not engage or look at her even out of fear. There is only one way to know whether you have traveled to the Other world for sure. You will know because you will be the only person there.

Traveling Back To Your Home World:

Alternatively, if you do not exit on the 10th floor:

Press the button for the first floor and keep pressing it until the elevator begins to move.Once you have reached the first floor, exit immediately. Do not exit on any other floors but the first. Do not acknowledge the woman if she is on the elevator. If anyone else gets on then do not speak to them either. Remain silent.

If you do exit the elevator at the tenth floor:

The elevator you used to get there is the only one you can use to return. Remember it.When you get back on the elevator, press the buttons in the same order you did in steps 2 through 8 which you used to travel. This should take you to the fifth floor.Once you have reached the fifth floor, press the button for the first floor. Do not be surprised when you instead begin to ascend again to the tenth floor. Do not panic. You can press the button of any floor lower than ten to stop ascending but you have to do it before you again reach the tenth floor. Some have described feeling called not to cancel the elevator?s ascension. You must.Once you have canceled the ascension and reached the first floor make sure that everything seems normal to you. If anything seems remotely strange. If you hear anything you should not be hearing. If you smell something you don?t recognize then do not exit the elevator. You have to repeat step two until everything on the first floor seems normal. This is very important.Once you are satisfied that everything on the first floor is as it should be in your world then you can exit the elevator.

    Additional Information on Traveling:

The Otherworld has been described by travelers as dark but otherwise exactly like your ?home? world. Again, you will know that it is not your world because no one else will be there. You may see a distant red cross through a window. This may be a cross or it may be something else.Electronics often do not work but some have posted videos claimed to have been taken while traveling to the OtherworldYou may become disoriented if you exit on the tenth floor. You may feel dizzy. Be vigilant, pay attention to how you are feeling, and keep your wits about you.If you pass out you may wake up at home but, understand, it may not be your ?home? world. It also may not be the Otherworld you intended to travel to by invoking this ritual. Examine everything around you to make sure it?s as it should be.If you get on the wrong elevator on your return trip then do not enter the return sequence. It will not work.

    Regarding the woman:

    Do NOT speak to her.

    Do NOT look at her.

Do NOT check to see if she is still there.

    She is.

P.S. If you play this game I would love to hear an account of your experience. Email me at [email protected]

    Re: pictures

    by

    July 22, 1990

During the freewheeling 80's, when almost any company was fair game for raiders and other businesses willingly sold themselves, many American hi-fi manufacturers were gobbled up by foreign investors. What happened in the case of Analog and Digital Systems, better known to audio fans as a/d/s/, is all the more remarkable.

As a subsidiary of the German company Braun A.G., famed for its striking styling of electrical appliances, a/d/s/ also gained renown for its excellent home and car stereo equipment. Its loudspeakers in particular attracted a loyal following among audio fans and were used as reference standards in recording studios.

Still, the company's American branch felt constrained under the thumb of its German parent. So the management of the United States operation bought out the German shareholders and set up its own headquarters in Wilmington, Mass.

Such corporate changes would be of small interest, were it not that many admirers of a/d/s/ speakers wondered what direction the company would take after cutting its tie to Europe. There had been concern that the reorganized company might depart from its own tradition and cater to broader markets. After all, many American speaker companies had done just that, making speakers that emphasize the steely, aggressive timbres of contemporary popular music.

Regrettably, several influential mass merchandisers prefer such hokey speakers in their showrooms because, as one salesman put it, ''They hit you in the ear.'' Their blatancy makes for quick sales.

Dig deeper into the moment.Subscribe for $1 a week.

The catch is, as with other infatuations based on obvious and superficial attributes, that to buy in haste is to repent at leisure. A speaker that sounds spectacular at first hearing is apt to grate on the ear on prolonged acquaintance.

Any apprehensions that a/d/s/, as part of its reorganization, might have taken this route are laid to rest by the company's latest models. They leave no doubt that the company's engineers still have obvious affection and appreciative ears for traditional instruments and the orchestral textures of classical music. This doesn't imply that these speakers are less adept at other kinds of sound. As a rule, a speaker at ease with the classics can also take rock in its stride, though the reverse is not true.

So-called rock speakers, deliberately designed to dramatize the sizzle and boom of contemporary electronic instruments, will mar more conventional sonics with a false, hard gloss. The new a/d/s/ models are conservative in structure as well as in sound. Proven principles are preferred to dubious departures, and innovation addresses itself mainly to the refinement of details.

Specifically, these refinements involve stronger and lighter materials used in the moving elements of woofers and tweeters, resulting in motion conforming more accurately to the musical wave forms. Also, a newly designed crossover network assures uncommonly precise separation of the frequencies routed respectively to woofer and tweeter.

The result of these efforts is happily evident in the new a/d/s/ M12/90, a slender floor-standing model, which achieves a remarkable aura of orchestral fullness combined with meticulous clarity of detail. For all its profundity, the lower range never seems lumpy, and in heavily scored compositions, the sound is spacious as well as massive.

Music more intimate in character comes off equally well. A solo violin, for example - one of the most revealing tests for a loudspeaker - sounded splendidly natural in both the silky and woodsy aspects of the instrument when played on the M12/90. And soprano voices - very difficult to reproduce properly - emerged with flesh-and-blood palpability. With a list price of $1,800 a pair, this speaker invites comparison with far more expensive models and surpasses many of them.

The same sweetness and clarity of sound, the same truthfulness of timbre, are to be found in the L-400e bookshelf speaker, listing at $650 a pair. Naturally, this highly compact design can't match the deep, rich bass of the larger speaker. Yet a/d/s/ has always been adept at giving small speakers a sonic fullness and balance that belies their size. This special skill is also in evidence here and makes the L-400e a fine choice in situations where top-quality sound is demanded but available space precludes larger speakers.

These two models, representing contrasting categories of price and size, clearly show that a/d/s/, despite corporate changes, hasn't changed
