Correction: There are suspicions that the radioactive polonium-210 used by ex-FSB agent Alexander Litvinenkos mafia associates (nuclear materials smugglers) to kill him for his defection to British MI6 came from Sarov.

Litvinenko made acquaintances with Russian mafia nuclear smugglers while he worked in the anti-organised crime section of the FSB, and joined them upon leaving federal service. He later defected to MI6 and ratted them out, so his old mafia colleagues killed him with Po210 as an unmistakable calling card so he would know exactly who killed him and why. There is no doubt that MI6 knows the truth, but they won't pass up an opportunity to make Russia look bad internationally so they lie thru their teeth....
