One of my favorite childhood vacations was the year we experienced the Oregon Trail and lived like pioneers for 4 days. I thought you might enjoy a few pictures from that trip! Before we went, Dad started reading to my sis and I from the Little House books which led me to discovering AG a year later.
(I'm sorry- I can't figure out how to post pics directly on this forum.)

That's all I have scanned. The rest are back at my parents' house. I'd give anything to do that trip again now that I have a greater appeciation of history.
Wait- I have a few pics from other history related vacations too!

Oooh, I have always wanted to go do something like that. I would bring Kira along, though she'd protest (she is waaay too accostumed to modern life, maybe it would do her some good). I'm going to go check out the website now!

Oh yes, it was really neat! We rode in covered wagons, slept in tents, cooked meals, and rode horses. We had a visit from a re-enactment Yankee troupe. We also had a mock trial. They had a woman plant her wallet in a guy's dufflebag, and then they held a trial and found him guilty! (My mom was on the jury. She thought they didn't have enough evidence. They even held a pretend hanging with a dummy wearing the man's clothing just to show us how justice was served on the praire.
We had a mock Indian attack in which they threw a rubber tomahawk at us that my sis and I ended up keeping, and an elder Native American came and showed us real artifacts.

Let's see...it was the summer I was 7, so that'd be 1989.
I was 9 in the Plymoth pic and 11 in the Jefferson house pic.
