When I visited my family this past June, I gave Downy Dunks to my mom's Kirsten and my sister's Molly. Here's how it went.

Thanks for the album! I was wondering how this was done. Kirsten's hair looks so much better after the downy dunk!

Thanks for sharing this album. What a big difference the downey dunk made! I use that same pan when dunking my girls.

Big differences in both Molly and Kirsten. I bet the hair feels better to the touch also. Good job!

Using a metal curling iron on a doll's synthetic wig is very dangerous! I know there are some members who have done this, and the doll's hair has to be wet and the curling iron on its lowest setting. Just be aware that hot metal can literally melt a doll's hair!
I have, however, used a hair straightener with ceramic - not metal- plates to smooth my dolls' hair after using wig shampoo to clean the hair, downy to soften it, and a wig conditioner to make it shine. Again, I make sure the hair is damp, and the ceramic straightener is on a very low setting.

Yes, I ran the curling iron through while the hair was still soaking wet.

I've used each in the past (while hair was VERY damp), and in my humble opinion, the ceramic straightener works MUCH better.
Being ceramic, of course it's much safer for doll hair, AND the flat shape is much easier to use. It's also easier to control the "tension" with the ceramic straightener, so the hair doesn't get pulled too hard during the treatment.
I'd use the curling iron only if I didn't have anything else--but my ceramic straightener was only $13.88 at Walmart--the best investment in doll maintenance I ever made! (Except maybe for my big jug of Downy!)
